Mirah M. (mirah_reads) | 2 comments I read this book last month, and for some reason it did not work for me.

Maisha Farzana (maishafarzana) | 239 comments I am really happy to see so many people loving this book. I absolutely loved it. "Ace of Spades" was one of the fastest paced book I have read in a while. Really enjoyed the whole dark academia setting and the ending was mind blowing. It has definitely become one of my new favourites.

Maisha Farzana (maishafarzana) | 239 comments @Hannah, it's sad to hear that it didn't work for you. Best of luck for your next read. Happy reading!!

Yes!! I went into this book mostly blind and I LOVE the twists! The characters are also loveable and complex :))

Ramisa Diya (ramisadiya) | 7 comments well I have question ( if anyone didn't finish pls skip this question)

as we know the whole school was involved with aces. So that means that tech guy also knew about aces. so did he helped chiamaka to find out everything?

Kathryn Ford (cathy87) | 64 comments I finally got hold of this book. And seeing in this thread that so many people loved it, I can't wait to begin.

Melissa Barrios | 1 comments I really loved this book! I can’t wait to discuss!

✨Galaxy✨ This book was truly amazing and automatically became a favorite when I read it in June

Katherine Bond (katherine_grace_bond) | 37 comments This one looks amazing and I've ordered it. If I get it before September is over, I'd love to discuss it.

Naomi (nnoomii) I got this book today and I started reading it as soon as I was home! Only 2 chapters in, but I already like the writing style. Reads very easily!

If i'm not wrong, only select people in the school are part of Aces, since not all of the students went to the camp, and the camp is a way to plan and recruit students into Aces. So tech guy probably isn't part of Aces, and he just helped chiamaka without knowing anything

Maybe it can be true , but if u remember the whole school knew about this shit like jack too.. even every one was not in the camp but they had an idea about the involvement.

Ramisa Diya (ramisadiya) | 7 comments Spoiler alert!!!!!

dont you guys think it was kind off stupid like though out the whole situation no one mentioned anything to their parents..

Chloe | 8 comments Just about to start reading this - I hope it’s good🥰

Kathryn Ford (cathy87) | 64 comments OKay, I've finished this book. I thought it was well written. I am from South Africa, race is hardly an issue here. So, although I liked the story, I thought it was very far fetched. For those of you who live in America, can you tell me if this story is plausible, or is it also very unlikely?

Ramisa Diya (ramisadiya) | 7 comments Kathryn wrote: "Okay, I've finished this book. I thought it was well written. I am from South Africa, race is hardly an issue here. So, although I liked the story, I thought it was very far-fetched. For those of y..."

I am from Bangladesh. Here people sometimes do taunt about complexion but it's not like racism exactly as the majority of the people are brown-skinned.
Am also curious to know how US people deal with it. Plus if u had read the author's note. there she mentioned her struggle as a black UV student... I wanna ask does anyone relate to her?

✨Galaxy✨ Ramisa wrote: "Kathryn wrote: "Okay, I've finished this book. I thought it was well written. I am from South Africa, race is hardly an issue here. So, although I liked the story, I thought it was very far-fetched..."

I am brown, not black, so I don't think I can answer that question in good conscience, as I haven't ever directly related to that. But, as an American, I didn't find it too far-fetched. Last year, the BLM movement? That happened because a lot of terrible things happened to black people around the country, and it's been happening since they were brought over from Africa as slaves. I can't answer your question, but if you want to know more about the topic I included some books down below that might help.

Stamped by Jason Reynolds
All American Boys by Jason Reynolds
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
On The Come Up by Angie Thomas

There are so many more! Just do your research and you'll find tons of great books that deal with racism and how it harms those being affected

In South Africa we had something called Apartheid, basically segrigation of all races and the white minority on top. In 1990 Apartheid was ended and in 1994 we had our first democratic elections with Nelson Mandela [I'm sure most of you have heard of him] became president and turned the country into a fully equal country regarding not just race, but female, and lgb equality as well. That's why I was wondering how likely this story is. I know America had the Jim Crow laws which were similar to Apartheid. But I thought once slavery was abolished and the Jim Crow laws overthrown that America was a true first world country where everyone was equal. That's why I wanted to know from American people if this story, set in this day and time, is likely, or should I take it as a true work of fiction.

Thank you for explaining BLM and giving the book recommendations.

✨Galaxy✨ My mom was born and lived in South Africa until she was 15 so I completely understand where you’re coming from. I’m glad I can help and I think it’s important those from other countries read these types of books so they can get an idea of how America truly is — the bad parts that are hidden beneath the promises of freedom.

Thank you for your recommendations. I appreciate it. I will surely look into these books.

Kathryn Ford (cathy87) | 64 comments Oh wow, that is so cool that your Mom is from South Africa. :) You're right, if something is hidden and covered up, then it is very important that it gets exposed and reaches as many different people as possible.

Naomi (nnoomii) I finished this book yesterday night. In the middle of the book i got a little bit bored and I really started te dislike Chiamaka. Which is a good thing in a way, that means that her character was really well written. The second part of the book got so intense and disturbing. I needed to finish it. Such an amazing book!
