PtP - Reading Roses (10)
1. Introduce yourself to your team. Let your team members know where you are from. This is a 'nice to know' when categories are announced and when team-mates can expect other members to post their book choices.2. Team Captain - reserve a couple of posts in this thread tracking your team's book selection and completion. (Alternatively they could convert a chat comment to the tracking post/s.)
3. Name your team. Using this round's theme of Spring, come up with a fun name. Given we are an open/public group with no age limit, so please make sure any chosen name is smart, not smutty ;)
Please PM your name to Jane(PS) by 10 September.
4. If you have a private profile, please 'friend' your team-mates. This is really important, because without this, your team-mates can't see your shelves to select a books under option 2. (It will also help with one of the categories in this round!)
5. Please post your book selections/completions in the format provided below. (This format is also posted in both the Q&A and Sign-Up threads.) We need to know the week that each book corresponds to, the page numbers, and how the book qualifies including links to lists/shelves (where applicable), etc. I can't stress this enough. When in doubt - link it*!
* don't link to your review in your completion post - reviews in your completion posts should be included in full in that post.
You don't want to start reading a book and then find it doesn't meet the requirements because some information (eg page count or theme link) was missing from your original post.
I will be monitoring this and your book will not be considered complete until I am satisfied that your selection and completion posts comply with the format rules of the challenge.
Remember - you can ONLY change your book selection in the week that the theme is called.
6. You MUST check in with your team each week, ideally once the theme is announced. Please let your team know if you expect to have spotty communication or are on holidays or having an operation, etc.
7. When you post the completion of your book, you must post a review; enough for us to know you have actually read the book. Please don't link to a review. You must post the review in this thread.
8. Re-reads are allowed but you can't read the same book twice within this challenge.
9. There is no prize for the winning team - bragging rights only :)
10. Each week, the theme will be announced in the Q&A/Announcement thread. The full list of themes announced during this round will be maintained in msg 1 of that thread.
The Rule on the Pass Option
* Each team can only have ONE member using their pass each week.
* Each member can only use that pass once each 5 weeks.
* This means that one or two team members (dependent upon the size of your team) will miss using a pass in each 5 week block.
* No-one can use the pass option in the last week of the challenge.
* In the final week Option 2 has altered and I will be allocating each team another team from which their book selection must be chosen :)
Key selection and completion post information. You must have ALL elements in your book posts. For the initial selection post Option 1 I need:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
How the book qualifies - please insert a link to the qualifying bookshelf/list.
If the theme is based off the bookcover or a letter in the title etc, please just repeat the theme.
For the initial selection post Option 2 I need:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
Name of the team-member, their star rating, the date they read the book.
For the completion post I need:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Rating (1-5)
Review
Please DO NOT CHAT in these selction/completion posts. It needs to be super clear.
If you 'waffle' about your decided book - please REPOST your selection once you decide. DO NOT go back and edit your waffling post.
I'll be tracking each team's progress separately, using the Captain's summary in each team's thread to check for accuracy.A summary chart will be posted in the last week to let teams know their progress against other teams :)

Hi Team! I'm Christy and I live in Georgetown, TX (north of Austin). I've lived in the area since last June with my 2 dogs. I tend towards reading romance, chick-lit, and historical fiction. I've participated in this challenge a couple of times before, and am looking forward to getting started!
Heya! Played this a few times, although now I tend to read every genre! Been waiting for this for ages!
Hi everyone! I've played this challenge a couple of times. I read romance, mysteries, and historical fiction. In terms of romance, I used to be all contemporary, but I've started to branch out and do more historical fiction. I am going on vacation right at the end of the challenge - I'll be (fingers crossed) at Disneyland on Nov 12 which I think is round 10, so I might request a pass on that round. I can't wait to get started. :D
I read a lot more romance now, mostly contemporary/new adult, and there's plenty on my shelves I want to get to!
Hi everyone! I've participated in this challenge a couple of times. I mostly read romance, fantasy and mysteries. Truly looking forward to the new challenge.
Hi All! Glad to see some familiar and new faces :-) I've done this challenge often, I've lost count! If anyone has team name ideas - related to the challenge theme or not - let me know!
Off the top of my head I thought of...reading roses
budding buddies
blossoming bibliophiles (or swap blossoming with budding)
I'll see if I can think of anything else.
Hi team, sorry for my delay in jumping in! I lost track of the days...
My name is Sarah and I live in Toronto, Canada. Married, no kids... I'm a cat mom.
I read just about anything except Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Paranormal... I love historical (both general fiction and romance), contemporary romance, cozy mysteries, thrillers, and even a little nonfiction here and there.
I have participated in the challenge a number of times and have been looking forward to this a lot!
I'm rubbish with coming up with names, but I like Reading Roses... or maybe Read Rose?

What Happens in Scotland by Jennifer McQuiston
Page numbers: 357
Rating: 3 stars
Review: What Happens in Scotland was a fun, light and quick read. I liked the premise of the book. After the first chapter, the story seemed to slow down a bit, but about halfway through story picks up.

Review: I’ve only just started getting on the historical fiction bandwagon and this book has shown me pirates and scoundrels are not my cup of tea. It tries to make you like the hero early on when he’s a teenager, but the first time you meet the adult version, he murders someone, kidnaps the heroine and then insists on having her one way or the other for a good chunk of the book. That’s not hero material for me. I completely understand his tortured backstory, but too much time was spent with him being a brute that I was completely turned off by the fact that he pretty much plans on raping her (Oh, but he’d never hurt her...uh huh…) I will say it was nice to see a female character with a disability, but overall I didn’t like the book. Even the writing dragged for me.
Hi all - we're pretty much on track. Still need completions for most of us but we have time - just need to make sure we don't fall 2 books behind. I'm one of them and should be done late tonight or tomorrow. My book is moving rather slow...New call is up I think so I will post that shortly!
Week 2 Call is up!!Link to Jane's post
Option 1
8. Spring - a geometric surface in the shape of a helically coiled tube
* Read a book with an MC who is working or studying in the field of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).
Qualification to be found in the precis, shelves or lists.
Here are some helpful*** (hopefully) lists:
STEM Heroines
2020 Women in STEM 1
Geeky STEM Romance
Gay Bookish, Nerdy, Geeky Characters
***Note - the 'helpful' lists do not automatically qualify the books, unless the title of the list clearly provides the required information.
Eg #8 - MC works/studies in STEM. The gay list does not automatically qualify the books on that list as it does NOT mention STEM in the list title.
Option 2
Key date: 12 March 2021
Team mate read on or after this date and rated at least 3 stars

I'm hoping to have mine complete tonight as well. It was a busy week for me and I'm so glad it's the weekend!

Week # 1 -Completion Post
The Texan's Future Bride by Sheri Whitefeather
Page numbers: 224
Rating: 3.5 Stars
I am a fan of Sheri Whitefeather, but sadly this book wasn't one of my favorites by her.
My biggest issue was the fact that J.D. had amnesia but still started an affair with Jenna. He had no memory of his past life. What if he was married or had a steady relationship?
Other than that, it was an enjoyable read.

Review
I really like the idea of this book and series but I am finding them very slow reading. I found that to be true with this 3rd book too. I like the characters, the whole special FBI unit for 'unusual circumstances' but the action is definitely a slow build. I'll keep plugging away at the series, just have to remember they won't go fast!
Completion Post Week 1 - Option 2
Author: Emily Henry

How it fits: Read by Sarah- 4 Stars - Read 7/25/21
Completed: 9/19
Rating: 5 Stars
Review: This is the 2nd book I've read by Emily Henry, and the 2nd 5-star review. I love that neither of these books is a typical chick-lit romance. In this particular book, we meet Poppy & Alex. They meet at college orientation and find that they are from the same hometown. Poppy never felt she fit in at home and does her best to leave, while Alex enjoyed living there and going home. In college, the two start taking a summer trip together, and continue to meet over the 10 next summers. That is until they ruin it all and don't talk for 2 years. This story is told in current time, with trips throughout the years woven through. I just loved Poppy & Alex, and though I'm not a millennial, I totally understand, "millennial ennui."
