It's definitely a slow burn. The world-building is well done, and the mythos is intriguing. It's dark fantasy heavily influenced by Asian culture; the author is from the Philippines, but also has Chinese, Malay, and Thai roots. I found it to be a bit wordy at times, with long periods of politics, rituals, and character development, but by the end I was interested enough to put the second book on my near-future TBR list. Hopefully the next two installments (this is the first of a trilogy) are slightly more action-packed.

Very helpful! thankyou! I don't mind stuff getting wordy as long as it's well done. I love a well-constructed world with a unique feel and good character development.
