Yeah, I also "own" a steam copy of Dead by Daylight... I am not sure if I'd call myself a fan, but I totally fell victim to the cashgrabbing, fanservicing licensed franchise DLCs. Nice to hear about the upcoming Hellraiser DLC, didn't know about it yet.
.....
I started playing Dying Light a couple of month ago, together with a school buddy. We are currently in the middle of the The Following expansion. The game is also getting a sequel, sheduled for December.
Otherwise, I like to play Phasmophobia... The best ghosthunting simulator available ;-).

But I didn’t really "get it" at the time. I didn’t play for a couple of years then, but I’ve been playing for the past 18 months and I've since picked up ever single character.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere for the first Layers of Fear game (haven't played the 2nd). I'm usually a scared cat for personally playing horror games, but it was really fun. My PC doesn't run much, but I've also played Dead Space on console.
One should also mention Alien: Isolation here. The game was just terrifying.
I play Dead by Daylight off and on. I haven't played in a couple of months and I found I prefer to play with one of my online friends instead of alone. I wanted to really be a killer main but I will admit that a lot of times survivors just annoy me. By the same token, when playing as survivor there are some real jerky killers. But its an online multiplayer so its to be expected. Some of my faves are the classics like Resident Evil, Fatal Frame, and Silent Hill. One that I would recommend is Illbleed. It's not scary per say, but it's campy and wild but a fun time. Zombies ate My Neighbors is also really fun.
Ekel wrote: "One should also mention Alien: Isolation here. The game was just terrifying."To be honest, I never completed it. I must've played the first few hours, then I got bored. Maybe I should revisit it one day.

Survivor mains tend to be much more toxic than killers. As they tend to play with friends (known in the community as SWF - Survive With Friends), they also get the added bonus of communication, which gives them a massive advantage. As a killer main, sometimes it's infuriating!

I visited your profile. Your picture looks like it was taken in broad daylight. Explain that to us, creature of darkness and shadows!
@ Topic: I think Resident Evil is a classic (speaking about the early original games). The only game I have played after Nemesis was RE7. The first-person perspective and the backwoods setting was quite refreshing. I almost felt disappointed they (Capcom) had to tie it in to the rest of the franchise instead of making a completely new game.
In terms of Capcom and zombies, I am also a huge fan of the Dead Rising series... Strangely, though, I am not sure if they are horror games... despite psychopaths, zombies and splatter en masse, the emphasis of the games is clearly on the fun aspect a zombie outbreak in combination with access to the contents and supplies of a whole shopping mall brings with it.

I was looking for a nice casual game to play while listening to weird fiction audiobooks. I think I've found the perfect choice in Eldritch:

Eldritch is a Lovecraft-themed first-person roguelike/dungeon crawler with procedural level generation.

I love the Half-Life series. I'm currently hooked on Fallout 76, but I wouldn't call it horror. Half-Life had a lot of horror elements, but it's not really horror either. I prefer games that aren't too challenging to get through, so I haven't got far playing Resident Evil games. My kid loves the 5 Nights at Freddy's games.
@Ian: I also love Half-Life! Besides StarCraft, it's my all-time favorite PC game, I wish they made HL3 already! I also played an insanely high amount of Counter-Strike over the years. I've been taking a break from gaming as I'm waiting for the next big thing, you know?Yeah, I wouldn't say Half-Life is a horror game, Left 4 Dead 1/2 are amazing games that's kind of in the horror genre, not super scary or anything, just a lot of fun, especially with friends and alcohol :-D
I used to play a lot of Half-Life 2 mods & some were horror. The game finally stopped working & I haven't tried any on my newer laptop.
@Ian: That's so awesome! Yeah, the mods for all those legendary Valve games make them endless! Lots of fun CS:GO maps/mods as well. I'm more of an FPS kind of guy but Call of Duty has been a bit bleh and VALORANT is even more toxic than CS:GO which I didn't think could ever happen!
I want to finish Doom: Eternal, but it's too hard! If I wanted to be challenged, I wouldn't have chosen the easiest difficulty setting. Fffuuuu...
@Ian: I absolutely LOVED Doom Eternal and yes, it was annoyingly hard but a very good time. I didn't like all the jumping around/parkour stuff since it got a bit frustrating but I'll forever love Doom! The original classics I will forever cherish. Especially Quake, Wolfenstein, and Counter-Strike!
My xbox gamertag is doomseal.I LOVE Wolfenstein games. I've played all except the VR one.
I played most of the Quake games also. I need to play Quake 4.
For Doom Eternal, I think I'll have to start over & put all my boosts toward ammo capacity in order to get past where I'm stuck. I hate it when games create situations like that. I had a similar problem with Rise of the Tomb Raider. I had no idea I would need to be fireproof until I was unable to beat the flamethrower boss. I quit the game because of it.
@Ian: That's so awesome and EXACTLY the same here! I'm on PC/Steam, no Xbox, unfortunately. Those were the classic FPS games I grew up with, thousands of hours spent fragging!YES, for Doom Eternal, more ammo/health/shield is the way to go as yeah, I also did it on the easiest difficulty. Gaming should be fun and not annoyingly frustrating, you know?
LoL I didn't play the new Tomb Raider games, not a fan of puzzles or anything. My wife played them all and absolutely loved them since SHE loves games like that with puzzles! I just want to destroy things...
I love watching my partner play Doom Eternal. He flies all over the place, zipping here and there. It's really fun to watch.I did have a try on the easiest difficulty but it was still too hard. I was plodding along like an old person, stopping when I needed to shoot. I didn't live up to the Doom Slayer name.
I'm not usually too bad at games but I'm terrible at the new Doom games.
@Jennifer: YES! The game is beautiful and the gameplay is amazing, they did a great job redoing both new DOOM games for modern gaming. The new DOOM games are intense, hard, and aren't easy at all even on the easiest difficulty so don't feel too bad, my friend :-)
Silent Hill 2 will always be my favorite! Love the storyline & I think it still holds up well all these years later
I am playing a lot of Valheim lately. You've probably heard about it, since it got quite a hype once it entered early access. Its a mixture between action RPG and open world survivalcraft, set in a fantasy world inspired by Vikings and Norse mythology. It is not horror, but especially the dark and gloomy swamp biomes have a beautifully creepy atmosphere to them, with the perpetual twilight, derelict ruins and the undead viking warriors, ghosts and mutant plant monsters inhabiting them.
Has anybody played Horror Video Society? It apparently just launched into early access and is a horror-themed asymetrical 1 vs 4 multiplayer survival horror game. Does the term "horror-themed asymetrical 1 vs 4 multiplayer survival horror game" ring any bells? If so, you can probably guess why I am a bit skeptical...
saw this thread and commenting as I am on Dead Space 3 after replaying 1 & 2. Started the series again after around 10 years because of this book: Dead Space
I play tons of survival horror games like the silent hill series , resident evil , Fatal Frame , and there is some modern games that play like the oldies. I been trying to get into games where i am defenseless like outlast but idk i get tons of anxiety of being chased lol.
I've played games from Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Layers of Fear and a few others, but nothing comes close to Alien Isolation. It can be frightening to even watch someone else play it.I want to give a special mention to Sweet Home, an old 8 bit game that was actually kind of scary.
Silent Hill 2 is getting a remake, and Resident Evil 4's remake is on the horizon.Next year will be a good year to be a horror fan.
Has anyone here played FAItH: The Unholy Trinity? It's one of my favorite smaller horror games, it's not super well-known but it's really good :)
Ooooh this is my ish! 🥰 LOVE psychological horror games. "Amnesia", "Little Nightmares 2", "The Forest", "The Path". I'm thinking of starting a twitch but I don't think I'm good enough. 😅
Does anyone remember Parasite Eve on PlayStation? It was a very slow paced horror game but it kind of grew on me as I gradually kept playing it.
I'm 63 years old so I haven't played in ages (I mean ages), but I was a huge fan of the first horror games, DOOM, Wolfenstein, Quake as well as Descent (which really wasn't horror)
@Richard: I grew up with DOOM, Wolfenstein, Quake, Unreal, and all those classic FPS games. LoL funny you mentioned them, I just re-played Quake 1 remastered and they JUST dropped Quake 2 remastered so I'll be all over that soon :-D
@Jenny: Seconding you on '"Amnesia"! If anyone liked "Amnesia: Dark Descent," I would recommend "Soma" by the same developer. Different vibe, but still very creepy and with a fantastic story and ending. I think that studio has great sound design in their games.
I love horror videogames. My brain is weird in that I write a lot of horror, but have a very narrow palate for horror movies (moar atmospheric, moar better), and only occasionally read horror novels. But I think, of any genre, horror is MEANT for videogames. Being fully immersed in the atmosphere and knowing that anywhere you go could bring something nasty heightens the tension in a way a movie or book never could, imo.I'm a fan of a lot of the older horror games. Amnesia, for sure. But also Fatal Frame 1 & 2 were freaking fantastic.

I'm a huge Dead By Daylight fan. I’ve spent nearly a thousand hours in that game... And Pinhead is coming out next week, so that'll give me an excuse to keep playing. Any other fans?
Back 4 Blood is out soon too, so that's another must-play to add to the list. They had a beta a few weeks ago. It was quite fun, just like Left 4 Dead.
Let me know what else you guys like playing.
