Ever come across a weird fact or interesting bit of trivia?

Well, come post it in this thread! We all could use a fun fact every once and a while!

Ale N (ale97) | 19 comments Fun fact about Pride and Prejudice:

Lydia elopes to the Las Vegas of her day.
Gretna Green was the first town over the Scottish border. There, a young couple could be joined with “marriage by declaration,” which often occurred in a blacksmith shop.

MarleyTheDragon | 638 comments Ok, so I went on a deep dive of all the random threads in this group and am personally affronted that only a few people have commented on this. I really only comment when I get a notification that someone else has commented, so no wonder I haven’t seen this yet! I love random bits of trivia! (I’m hoping maybe if I comment on this other people will too) ok so does it have to be book related? Just in case, I’ll share something book related:
Bibliosmia is a real word for loving the smell of books!

MarleyTheDragon | 638 comments There’s more

Angsticipation
(Noun.) The feeling experienced when you finish the latest book in a series, it ends on a serious cliffhanger, and there isn’t even an estimated publication date for the next book in the series yet.

MarleyTheDragon | 638 comments And

Librocubicultarist
(Noun, rare.) A person who reads in bed.

I love trivia too! That's why I created this thread!

It does not have to be book related at all! It can be as random as you want! :)

Okay, fair warning, this is me being a huge STEM nerd, but . . .

If Earth were a bar magnet, the North Pole of the magnet would correlate to Earth's South Pole, and vice versa.

But we say North is "up" because the magnetic field of both Earth and a bar magnet (along the axis of the magnet) points in the same direction as magnetic north.

Akshita If you reach a speed that can be compared to the sp3ed of light ( Ex. 0.8c and not 0.00000008 c) you will start gaining mass which is NOT negligible.
We can put this is another way,
You always gain some amount of mass when you run with some velocity, but more often it is negligible since our speed with respect to light is very very less.....

message 26: by Akshita (new)

Akshita Ikr!!!
But the thing is when our mass and velocity will increase , air resistance would also increase . So it's kind of confusing and paradoxical ig

Siobhan | 0 comments did you know when humans look at puppies, our brains produce something called dopamine. This means we think puppies are cute. When elephants look at humans, their brains also produce dopamine, meaning when they see us, they think we're cute in the same way we think puppies are cute.
