It seems obvious that she was doing it deliberately, and after a while I realized that "he" was always whichever main character was being discussed at the time, but I still often got confused momentarily about who "he" was at any given time.

Agreed, for some time I thought Harold was talking to me and not to William when Harold started using 'you'.
im currently reading a little life and this is really confusing me sometimes i have to re read the page and figure out who it was directed at
all discussions on this book
