I saw the movie before I read the book so I knew what was going to happen. I made the mistake of taking this with me on a business trip to India and was waiting in the lobby reading it while I was waiting for him. I had to put my sunglasses on because I was absolutely sobbing remembering the movie part of it while I was reading. It was so embarrassing...I've since read all of the series and enjoyed the whole of it although I think the first is my favorite of the series.

I know it will be sad so it probably won't be on the top of my list. I like your anecdote about India. I don't like crying in public, either, but sometimes it cannot be helped.
When I'm feeling grief or sadness and I know I need to cry and get it out at home, this is one of my go to movies. This and PS I love You.I personally think they did a good job with the movie adaptation.

PBT Comments: I found this book on the "made me cry" shelf and probably would never have read it if not for the monthly tag! Another reason I enjoy being a member of this group :-)
Louisa Clark, a young woman from a modest background, becomes a household helper for a wealthy former CEO who was paralyzed in an accident. It has many of the hallmarks of a romance, such an initial frostiness that makes it seem like these two people will never get along. Over time, they get to know each other and begin to care deeply.
It is not often we find a main character who is a c-5, c-6 quadriplegic. The characters in this book are particularly well-developed. Though at its core it is a romance, the story generally steers clear of over-sentimentality. It addresses relevant social issues involving the rights of the disabled to make quality of life decisions. I enjoyed it more than expected.
