Read the Movie discussion

This is such a great book that most of us read as children, therefore an easy read to do again during the busy holiday season. This was adapted into a movie twice so far. Once quite a long time ago, and a second time much more recently. I would really like to hear in the discussion which movie version people liked better and why. Also feelings about Ommpa Loopas- creepy, not creepy?

Are we ready to go with Charlie and the other four children into Mr. Wonka's factory?

I love how the book- the edition I read anyway- has such wonderful illustrations in it. The ones of Charlie dancing around his grandparent's bed with Grandpa Joe really make you feel happy that Charlie found the ticket at the last minute. There is so much emotion in the drawings. I think that the book is closer to the original version of the film with Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. I'll let some other people weigh in on how they thought Johnny Depp played that character in contrast.
And still there is the oompa-loopa issue. Scary not scary? I know where my vote goes but do you feel sorry for them?
Lots to think about this month. Can't wait to hear some feedback.
