Play Book Tag discussion

It's 1926 and Tom has come home from 4 years of war. Tom takes a job in a light house on Janus Rock off the coast of Australia. Life on Janus is very secluded. To this lonely place Tom brings his new bride Isabel. Over several years Isabel suffers two miscarriages and a still birth. When a boat washes up on Janus with a dead man and a crying baby Isabel convinces Tom it was meant to be and they should keep the baby. While Tom isn't sure this is the right thing to do he will agree to do it for Isabel. When the baby is two the family makes a visit to the mainland and the consequences of their actions become apparent.
For me this was an ok read. I just didn't feel connected to any of the characters. The subject made me think that it should "make me cry" (yes, I am usually a crier), but somehow I just felt like an observer.
