The Prince and the Pauper by Mark Twain is our Old School Classic Group Read for November 2021.

This is the No Spoiler Thread
The Spoiler Thread will open on the 1st.

This early posting of the No Spoiler thread is to discuss any non-plot issues pertaining to the book.

Appropriate Posts can contain:
1. Information about the author.
2. Compare editions/translations.
3. Any historical or background information
4. Are you familiar with this author’s work? Do you have any expectations going into the book?
5. What made you decide to read this book?
6. Any fan fiction that you have read or would like to read? Just link the books.
7. If you loved the book and want others to share in that experience, use this thread to motivate others, again save plot specifics for the Spoiler thread
8. If you hated the book, it would be best to keep that for the spoiler page

The most important thing to remember is no plot discussion. Any post that contains plot information or spoilers will be deleted.

Natalie (nsmiles29) | 842 comments I haven't read Twain for a LONG time. I honestly didn't even know he wrote this book. Whenever someone mentions this story I always think of the Disney version with Mickey Mouse that we used to watch when I was younger. :D

It looks like it's available on Audible Premium so I'll be joining in.

Lori Keeton | 1510 comments I'm so excited to get to read this one! I recently read A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court and wanted to read something else by Twain.

Natalie, yes, it's been quite a while since I've seen the Mickey version. It's certainly a storyline that has been done even in modern movies such as Trading Places with Eddie Murphy and Dan Ackroyd.

Heather L (wordtrix) | 353 comments I don’t know if I’ll be able to work in a reread of this one, but I did enjoy it when first read a few years ago. There are numerous movie adaptations. I have a vague recollection of seeing the 1937 version with Errol Flynn and Claude Rains.

Roe (maydays) | 8 comments This is gonna be interesting because this'll be my first Twain novel! I've read more about his life which has gotten me more interested in his work and I've also been reading a lot of medieval literature recently, so this should be a fascinating read.

Marie | 9 comments I read this a year ago and I am hoping to fit in a reread. I really enjoyed it - it was my first Twain.

message 7: by Roe (new)

Roe (maydays) | 8 comments Marie - This is going to be my first Mark Twain novel! I’m excited! I never got around to reading Huck Finn or Tom Sawyer because it was never assigned for me, and it just didn’t seem all that interesting when I was younger. After reading up more on his life recently, I’ve definitely become more open to reading his work.

Annette | 631 comments It has been a long time since I read this. I am hoping to squeeze it in toward the end of the month.

message 9: by Joe (new) - rated it 4 stars

Joe B. | 43 comments I, too, decided that I‘ll try to squeeze this in at the end of the month. Loved Huck and Tom as a youngster, and Connecticut Yankee in high school. So this will be my first Twain in many decades.
