Apollo (mean-old-man) This is a dedicated space to discuss our October read, The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner, as it received the second place vote in the last poll.

Andrea (femlich) to be completely honest, head empty when it comes to this book lmao. i really love the concept of the female apothecary and dishing out revenge to the bad men of the world. it was entertaining enough on my bus rides to and from school, but i don't have anything really good or bad to say about it. it was kind of a middle of the road book for me. like 3/5

Apollo (mean-old-man) yeah, i hate to say it, but this was not a book i really enjoyed. the concept was really cool, but i just felt bored throughout! even during the climax— some of the discoveries that Caroline made were a little too coincidental to feel real or satisfying while reading! probably would have also liked less idolization of pregnancy if im being honest. i know its important for a lot of people, but it felt like all anyone ever talked about was either pregnancy or killing, and it just sorta got old :(

otherwise i really enjoyed the 18th century characters and their stories, not so much the 21st century ones!

Liz | 2 comments I finished this recently but better late than never. I really liked the premise of the book but not the execution. I enjoyed the Nella and Eliza storyline but not Caroline's, it felt a little too obvious and overall the story felt slowed down by it in the beginning and for half the book.
