24. Addresses A Specific Topic


This prompt is for a book that addresses a specific topic. This could be a book about social justice, racism, addiction, the opioid crisis, finances, a hobby, politics, parenting, relationships, self-help, mental health, etc. Almost all non-fiction books would fall under this category. For fiction, you could choose a book with a strong overall message or theme. You could pick a topic that you enjoy reading about, or branch out and try something new!

I read Gory Details: Adventures from the Dark Side of Science for this prompt. Essays about the "gross" side of science from our bodies, to insects, to the monsters.

I read The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin

I love all of these graphic novels! I also appreciate the topics that are brought up, I always learn so much from different perspectives.
Heartstopper: Volume Four

I finally read The Radium Girls for this one.

I read Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl. It addresses the holocaust from the authors perspective as a Jewish prisoner.

The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo - fiction with a strong theme of love and loss. Beautiful and heartbreaking.

I read The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein.

A girl tree offering everything to this boy, from his early ages until he is old. He only takes, and gives nothing back. But the tree is happy.

So I would say one-sided love topic is accentuated here.

Listening to Rest by Claudia Hammond. And reading us obviously the #1 restful activity!!

I read The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot. A beautiful story about life and death. I absolutely loved it! I found myself laughing out loud at some of the things the quirky characters did and then physically crying at other times. I don’t usually have so many emotions from reading. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

GenderQueer is a graphic novel about one person’s struggle with identity, community, and finding their place. Highly recommend for anyone!

I highly recommend Cultish: The Language of Fanaticism by Amanda Montell. Such a fascinating read for those interested in psychology and linguistics.

I just started "Salt To The Sea" by Ruta Sepetys which focusing on the wreck of the Wilhelm Gustloff in 1945.

I read Lost Girls: An Unsolved American Mystery, about the victims of the Long Island serial killer.

I read Walkable City: How Downtown Can Save America, One Step At A Time by Jeff Speck

I read Last Child in the Woods, which is about the lack of natural education in the lives of children today.

I read “When the Body Says No” by Gabor Mate

Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer.

The Complete Maus

I used the Complete Maus by Arthur Spiegelman, about the Holocaust. this also won a Pulitizer

I read Gender Queer. An autobiographical graphic novel about the author’s (who is also the artist) journey of personal gender discovery. It was a very clear look at one person’s journey. I learned a lot.

Connecticut Real Estate Practice and Law - Katherine A. Pancak

I read "No Promises in the Wind," by Irene Hunt. Specific topic was the Great Depression. Not bad, but not my favorite, by her.

Treasure of the World by Tara Sullivan is a beautifully written story set in the mountains of Bolivia where 12 year old Ana and her family struggle to mine silver and eke out an existence, highlighting plight of children forced to work just so their families can eat. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ here is my review
