Noelle | 5 comments Hi there! I'm working on a thesis project, tentatively titled 'Bibliotherapy and Reading Memoirs of Mental Health.' In sum, the project will look at representations of mental illness in Andrew Solomon's The Noonday Demon: An Atlas of Depression and William Styron's Darkness Visible: A Memoir of Madness. I am interested in talking to some of you who have historically suffered from a mental illness and who also self-identify as readers of mental health/depression autobiographies (not necessarily those two books, but the genre in general), in order to see how interacting with these texts has informed/helped/hurt you and your understanding of your mental illness. If this sounds like you, please reply and I will get in touch with more information!

As Goodreads' policy has changed, I cannot message you directly on here if we are not friends. However, I've changed my settings so that you can message me -- ideally with your email address so that I can respond with more details.

Jeffrey Hatcher | 5 comments I'm interested. Hope you're including epilepsy as a condition, as its comorbidity rate with depression is about 30%. It's packed full of psychoses, but we're not allowed to call it a mental illness cuz the shrinks are afraid of us :) . jeffreyleehatcher@gmail.com
