history: Life as a five isn't always easy, as Astrid quickly learned. However, her parents did their best to keep her and her siblings fed and clothed. Astrid was five when her mother, Charlotte, first started teaching her how to sing and play piano. From then on, Astrid sang and performed at small parties and shows. When she was eight, Astrid sold her first painting, one of the sun rising over snow, a sight she has seen often enough living in Whites, a notoriously cold province. One day when Astrid was twelve, she lost a big show because she was late, losing money that would have helped her family in so many ways. Her father yelled at her and hit her, cutting her cheek open and covering her in bruises. After that, Astrid always arrived hours in advance to her shows, fearing what would happen if she was late to another show. A few months after her nineteenth birthday, the applications for the Selection arrived, and Astrid filled hers out without a second though, hoping and praying for a chance to leave her house and her father. However, she was surprised when she was chosen, and after a few weeks she went to the castle and has been there since.
