Wow. You guys have lucked out. I'm trying to muddle through an uninteresting book for my in person book club. I keep hoping it will get better. Might just be my frame of mind because it got pretty good reviews on GRs.

The Witness for the Dead, by Katherine Addison. This is a crime/mystery fantasy novel, involving zombies and magic, and a woman investigating a murder. It was really good.

I still think I liked the first book in Addison's fantasy world (The Goblin Emperor) a little more, but mostly I liked all the political maneuverings in that one, which are not as entertaining to everyone. Witness for the Dead puts a fun twist on murder investigation, considering how things change when you have people who can channel the last thoughts and experiences of dead people and even briefly talk to the dead, to ask them what happened from their own POV.
