We are now at chapters 29-31 and conclusion of Once There Were Wolves.
Aggie has come to Inti's rescue and she goes to get help with the baby. Red McRae comes to assist Inti and take her to the hospital.
Aggie reveals to Inti the story of what happened to Duncan. She feared for Inti's life and wanted to protect her tried to kill him and his dog. Inti is horrified at the revelation that number 10 was not the attacker and she had wrongly killed this wolf. Red McCrae calls off the hunt of other wolves. Red agrees to talk with Inti to have a better understanding and how they and wolves can co-exist. Inti reveals to Aggie that she did not kill Gus and still hates him for what he did to her and their lives.
Inti goes to see Duncan. He has survived. He writes on a board that he may never speak again after his injuries. Duncan makes a statement that he was injured because of a wolf to spare Aggie, although it was a lie. Duncan was Inti to put Aggie in a facility, Inti refuses. Inti asks her mother to come to Scotland. Inti knows that Aggie is ill.
Inti sees that Aggie has taken Gall the horse to the hills after seeing a note on the table from her. Inti goes to search for her, sad with grief. Like her father, Aggie has gone into the wild, like animals to die, or to finally live?
Final thoughts:
I would like to know what you all thought of the end of this incredible story. So many twists and turns, revelations. Inti's intentions to re-wild to help restore the natural world and promote conservation was admirable. I was not expecting so many painful obstacles she and Aggie would have to endure or have endured in the past. Inti loved her sister and she loved the wolves. In the end, she made a big mistake, wolf number 10 did not attack Duncan, she thought she was doing the right thing based on her instincts. She was wrong and it is a mistake she would have to live with her life. Revelations about Aggie, Duncan, Gus, the wolf attacks, Stuart were going to change Inti's life forever, but with the birth of her daughter, she was going to be able to start a new life with Duncan and learning to live without Aggie. Aggie's ending matched that of their father, walking into the wild with Gall the horse.
I'd like to know your thoughts about this book. It was an intense, emotional journey with these characters and animals. I wasn't prepared for the sudden twists and turns. I admit, I have a great love for animals and it was difficult to see the hatred and violence towards them, so much misunderstanding. I did appreciate the ability for both conservationist and farmer reaching out to each other and the willingness to have conservation to better understanding each other. Something I wish happened in our world today. I was relieved to see Aggie and Inti hopefully achieving their peace.
What are your thoughts?
Have a good day.
Sincerely,
-Donna
