Cutlery. I'm afraid this is one of those ideas that sounds really simple, but turns out to be very difficult. I'm hoping all of Chien's Noodle House mysteries have some sort of cutlery on the cover.

Chopsticks count as cutlery, right?

Sadly, the dictionary disagrees with me. "Cutlery" is specifically: knives, forks, or spoons.

Happily, the fourth Noodle House book features a SPOON:
Wonton Terror Wonton Terror (A Noodle Shop Mystery, #4) by Vivien Chien

Elaine | 0 comments I've wanted to read The Word Is Murder (Hawthorne and Horowitz Mystery, #1) by Anthony Horowitz ever since I enjoyed The Magpie Murders.

Chelsea (chelseanotchels) | 64 comments Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body would definitely apply for the cover.

The Knife of Never Letting Go works for both title and cover.

I'll be reading The Sharper Your Knife, the Less You Cry: Love, Laughter, and Tears at the World's Most Famous Cooking School because I already have it.

Piajensen13 | 52 comments This is a weird book - might be good for those going through a bad break up... Season to Taste or How to Eat Your Husband - has fork and knife on the cover.

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 1792 comments I might assume that's a spoon in the sundae and use Homicide and Halo-Halo.

Homicide and Halo-Halo (Tita Rosie's Kitchen Mystery #2) by Mia P. Manansala

I love this series - waiting for the 3rd via Libby! Enjoy!

Emily Murray (emlikesbooks) | 10 comments I read In My Dreams I Hold a Knife earlier this year and would highly recommend it for dark academia fans! Oddly, it has a pair of scissors on the cover, but it definitely works and I feel like it's been underhyped.

message 14: by Doni (new)

Doni | 739 comments Just found one: A Death in the Small Hours (Charles Lenox Mysteries, #6) by Charles Finch Don't know if it's any good, but it definitely fits the prompt!

Rachel | 113 comments Erica wrote: "So no sporks allowed? Not that I have a book suggestion for that. ;)"

I just had to do a quick search, after reading your comment: there is a children's book called Spork by Kyo Maclear , about a little spork trying to find out where he fits into the world!

Erica | 1295 comments Thanks @Rachel I feel the need to read that now. :)

Doni | 739 comments Meredith! wrote: "In My Dreams I Hold A Knife is an awesome read- now I wish I had saved it for 2022!"

The cover I see has a pair of scissors, not a knife, strangely enough, so it wouldn't count anyway.

But, it says "or in the title" so it would totally count.

☾ynthia ♡ (blueboss005) | 1 comments Arsenic and Adobo feature a fork and spoon on the cover!

message 36: by Jacqie (new)

Jacqie Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe would work.

CrystalIsReading on StoryGraph (crystalsea24) | 57 comments I was going to use Arsenic and Adobo for a different prompt, so I'll probably read Can't Escape Love for this. although I could use that one for the mobility aid prompt instead...

CrystalIsReading on StoryGraph (crystalsea24) | 57 comments also, from what I could find when googling, it seems like cutlery refers to western food impliments, like knife, fork, spoon, spork, and other hybrid utensils. some articles suggested it could be extended to serving utensils as well (like Ladle? I guess?). but non-Western impliments, like chopsticks, don't seem to count. bummer. this is a weird prompt.

Kim | 217 comments I'm going to be reading The Wonder, by Emma Donoghue (It's also becoming a movie in 2022!)

Rachel (rachrenk) | 16 comments Some books in the Dexter series have knives on the cover. I think you could also say they fall under the double lives category.

message 41: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer T. (jent998) | 264 comments I’m hoping this has recipes in it like the first book did!

Ellie wrote: "I might assume that's a spoon in the sundae and use Homicide and Halo-Halo.

I found one list that counted chopsticks, which led me to use Girls with Sharp Sticks by Suzanne Young when I came across this prompt in a completely different challenge, which is such a wild stretch, but I was determined to only use books from my TBR! (I'm not always successful with this, often some very vigorous stretching is required!)

This time, I am also cheating, because it said "on the cover" and an author's name is often on the cover, so I'm going for Hunted by Meagan Spooner because it is on my TBR and I am stubborn!

More suggestions (as ever, not all have been read!):

Proper fits:

Knife Edge by Malorie Blackman (second in the series, I think, definitely a sequel)
The Subtle Knife by Philip Pullman (second in a series)
The Fork, the Witch, and the Worm: Eragon by Christopher Paolini (companion book to the Inheritance Cycle)

Not so proper:

Whiskey in a Teacup: What Growing Up in the South Taught Me About Life, Love, and Baking Biscuits by Reese Witherspoon
Geology For Dummies by Alecia M. Spooner

Lilith (lilithp) | 1120 comments I just found The Other Husband today. I think I have my choice for this prompt.

ETA: The Other Husband by Kathryn Croft

Could also work for the prompt about a party, or for book set in London for 1 of your sister cities.

The Edible Woman is FANTASTIC. I loved it. Great choice. I wish more people knew about this gem from Margaret Atwood.
