SarahKat | 6506 comments This thread is to discuss Thief of Time by Terry Pratchett, the twenty-sixth book in the Discworld series.

Pages: 378 pages

Length: 1 Month (November)

Participants: Marc, Sinisa.

Everyone reads at their own pace during a Buddy Read. Because participants can be at different parts of the book at different times, it is extremely important to mark spoilers so that the book is not ruined for someone who is not as far along as others!!!

Mark spoilers by placing {spoiler} before the text and {/spoiler} after the text but use the < and > instead of the { and }.

Trisha (trishabisen) | 2389 comments Marc & Sinisa, can you confirm if you'd like to continue with the series in 2022?

Marc *Dark Reader with a Thousand Young! Iä!* (marcthedarc) Yes! I will post a full list in the buddy read suggestion group soon; we are not necessarily following the GR list as I think we will skip the Tiffany Aching books.

Marc *Dark Reader with a Thousand Young! Iä!* (marcthedarc) I am starting to read this and am chuckling on the first page.

Sounds great. Looking forward to Jan and Maurice, my first Pratchet book.

Sinisa | 385 comments At 50% and it is going pretty fast. Book started a bit slow for me but soon it hooked me. I am really loving all Susan interactions, with Death, with kids with director of school, monologues about teaching... Whenever it is her parts it his hilarious. This might be best Death book if second half is the same.

Sinisa | 385 comments "There was indeed no way around Mrs Og"

A fat joke and Mrs Ogg never a miss for me

"Susan spotted one brightly painted gnome fishi- No, that wasn't a rod he was holding, was it? Surely a nice old lady wouldn't put something like that in her garden, would she? Would she?"

"Mrs Ogg refilled her brandy glass and this meant the pause went on for some time."

Sinisa | 385 comments There was a "Orange cat" mention, pretty sure it is Maurice using Mrs LeJean for free food.

And this Mr Black, Mr white, Mr Avocado is that a Tarantino's Reservoir dogs shout out?

A little Reservoir Dogs, a little James Bond in there too (Qu), a little Gershwin lyrics, there are several little touches here that work well.

I wondered, since you're reading in not-English, how does the Igor lisping speech work out? How does it express something like, "We're no thrangerth to explothionth, uth Igorth"?

Marc *Dark Reader with a Thousand Young! Iä!* (marcthedarc) Two options for 2022:

First list - only the 'adult' novels:
Night Watch
Monstrous Regiment
Going Postal
Thud!
Making Money
Unseen Academicals
Snuff
Raising Steam - done in August 2022

OR, second list that includes the "younger readers" books:
The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents
Night Watch
Wee Free Men
Monstrous Regiment
A Hat Full of Sky
Going Postal
Thud!
Wintersmith
Making Money
Unseen Academicals
I Shall Wear Midnight
Snuff
Then in 2023: Raising Steam, The Shepherd's Crown

I prefer the first list, but if you want to follow the second list, I am willing to do that.

It is pretty well done actually and not just that thing but looks like a true fan did translations. We have 1 voice = 1 letter language (phonetic I think is the word like no pronunciation of words like in English) so it is just matter of voice they pick for it. I found the line so you can see how it looks like and bottom one is grammatically correct one I wrote. So translator just mixed F and V letter/voice to make it true to original.

Fvakako, gofpodine. Va naf Igore, neudobnoft nije nepovnanica
Svakako gospodine. Za nas Igore neudobnost nije nepoznanica

Oh I didn't know Maurice is considered younger readers book also. I only wanted to reread him because I heard there is film announced in 2022 by this novel. We can do adult list I am fine with your call on that.

Great! I will post it in the buddy reads thread so Tricia can organize it for 2022. We can always read Maurice afterwards, or separately.

Sinisa | 385 comments I finished and even tho very end plot left me confused at times it was pretty fun. I might reread this end again but it was complicated to follow. I laughed a lot at second "Susan please wind me up" bit and "Lets go clubbing". I think it is the best Death sub series book.

Marc *Dark Reader with a Thousand Young! Iä!* (marcthedarc) I agree that it’s the best Death series book. It’s the only one that I have deeply enjoyed.
