16 - A Book about Witches
Since I’m trying to fit the last two Harry Potter books in for 2022, this prompt will work perfectly for that!
I read A Discovery of Witches for this year’s challenge and was hoping to work in books two and three next year. Between this category and a book by an author read in 2021 I’ll have them covered. There are a few cozy mystery authors who have series featuring witches, including Heather Blake, Juliet Blackwell and Shirley Damsgaard.
The Witches by Roald Dahl is the first one I thought of. Goodreads reminded me that The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West would also qualify.
There's probably a collection of comics out there with Scarlet Witch and Agatha Harkness for the Marvel fans among us.
I read The Year of the Witching earlier this year and really enjoyed it and think it would work well for this prompt. I'm hoping the same is true for the sequel The Dawn of the Coven so I can use that! I'm also interested in The Witch's Heart, which is the December book for The Feminist Book Club, so maybe I will put it off until the new year!
Does anyone know if Book 1 of The Magicians by Lev Grossman includes witches? I feel like the show had witches, but could be remembering wrong. Or if there any prompts this book would fall under?
I'll be reading Slewfoot for this prompt, as a horror fan.I would also suggest the Practical Magic series for the general reader and The Ex Hex for the romance reader.
Just from my TBR:The Manningtree Witches
Hour of the Witch
The Lighthouse Witches
A Lullaby for Witches
The Witch's Heart

I have The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow and A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness:D
I'm not sure if I'll read A Letter to Three Witches or The Orphan Witch. I tried reading Witch Please last year, but there's a big consent issues in it, so I don't recommend it.

There's bunches of Terry Pratchett's that work for this one, I'm going for Wintersmith
The Witching Hour, Lasher, and Taltos by Anne Rice. This trilogy is amazing!!!https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

I don't think anyone's mentioned it yet, but I read The Ex Hex this year and it's a wonderful witchy romcom!
I'm probably going to go with historical witches rather than fantasy. (some of these I've already read, but thought I'd mention them for others)Daughters of the Witching Hill
The Heretic's Daughter
The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane
The Witches of St. Petersburg
The Crucible

Oh yes! Thank you for this recommendation.
Angie — You’re welcome! I read it for a history course many moons ago and thought the socio-economic dynamics fascinating.
I'm pretty witched out but fingers crossed for Witch King by Martha Wells to come out when expected next fall

I have owned this book for years and this is what I will be reading! 😁

Here's a chunkster that I adore (and have an autographed copy of):Drawing Down the Moon: Witches, Druids, Goddess-Worshippers and Other Pagans in America Today.Non-fiction, and possibly a life-changing choice.
I keep putting off A Discovery of Witches so im thinking I could go with that. But I am also very interested in The Year of the Witching
This one feels like it should be easy but i'll have too many options and wont know what to pick. lol
For those who like mythology and havent read it yet, i HIGHLY recommend Circe
I haven't decided what to read yet, but for those who haven't read this amazing book yet, I believe Circe by Madeline Miller counts.
In 2022 a new book is being released called In Defense of Witches: The Legacy of the Witch Hunts and Why Women Are Still on Trial . It sounded pretty neat so I might look into that one instead.
Just saw Obsidian by Sarah J. Daley on my feed. Clicked because of the cover, but am doubly interested since it seems the main character is a witch.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. LewisA Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski
I love this series! It is a paranormal Cozy mystery play on The Great British Baking Show. Highly recommend the audio version! The final book in the series comes out this month!
Also:
Another good paranormal cozy mystery, the PI finds out she is a Witch in the first book. Also highly recommend the audiobook.
This book was great! Would/Could also work for the holiday prompt as it is set around Halloween ( I feel like this one was also a BookTok Recommendation)

Does the Great Witches Baking Show series also include recipes? I think this is something I'd like to read (or listen to, as I have some Audible credits to use), and I could slot it into another challenge category.
i would recommend Terry Pratchett's young adult series about Tiffany Aching, starting with The wee free men, which I think it's really good. Somebody mentioned Winter Smith above, I think it's the second book in the series. Great characters and I don't really see the difference between them and his adult-oriented books, except the main character is a child. Also a quick read.
I read The Wee Free Men (Discworld, #30; Tiffany Aching, #1) by Terry Pratchett. This book was so much fun. 5 stars. This is my first Terry Pratchett read. I don't know why I have been asleep on him as an author. I will continue reading this series.
Heather L wrote: "There are a few cozy mystery authors who have series featuring witches, including Heather Blake, Juliet Blackwell and Shirley Damsgaard."I want to second Juliet Blackwell. I started reading her Witchcraft series (starts with Secondhand Spirits) last summer. I listened to them on audio and enjoyed them.
