I refuse to read Sarah J Maas XD also Cassandra Clare. I tried two of her books, but I didn't like them at all
"The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time". Everyone loves that book but I just despise it. Also "We Were Liars".
Ohh boy, rant incoming. Back in middle school I read a book called "Zip," I can't remember the author's name. Spoilers ahead. It was rather ridiculous, and even my smol self could tell. Bratty MC, plot convenances, disconnected plot threads, cliches (bum dad who walks out on young girl and her beautiful mom to live the life of a bum in a trailer in bumsville, for instance), a strange obsession with granola bars and peanut butter (separately), a random crockpot that magically appeared for no reason on the side of a hot tub after said tub nearly drowns the MC with a random and magical(?) whirlpool, both things which MC barely comments on...
Those things, combined with strange witchy and PC mojo that didn't even make sense (a cross-dressing man channeled a spirit which then levitated cherries to tell the future or something. Because plot, I guess?) made it into the most confusing and ridiculous book I've read to date.
It was meant to be a whimsical and adventurous story about home and love or something, but it was really just a bunch of disconnected events and conveniences squished into a shape that vaguely resembles a plot if you squint real hard.
I should probably review it on here, but it's been so long since I've read it I'm not sure if that'd be fair to do. XD

Oh haha you're not the only one who refuses SJM's stuff and I don't really blame you!

Hmm, haven't heard of either of those until now! Although it looks like quite a few other people I know on here didn't like We Were Liars, either.

I do remember it pretty well - I was incredibly confused at the time of reading it, haha.
I just looked up the book and found reviews for it, and it has surprisingly high ratings, which absolutely baffles me.
I never finished War and Peace, which Tolstoy later recanted anyway, and I never finished National Velvet. The movie was great, but at the time I tried to read the book, it seemed really weird. I will have to try it again sometime because I love the movie.

You're really brave to try War and Peace!!! My AcaDec team was talking aboiut it and I just sat there and grinned at them all because I had no clue what they were talking about.

This is super controversial but Harry Potter bc it’s largely responsible for the popularity of witchcraft especially since it characterizes it as being ‘cool’ and I’m sorry but no 😭😅
When I was a kid, I tried to read everything In my parents' library, but that one bored me to tears. I read the chapter titles and decided it sounded dumb--too much like a soap opera. Tolstoy had a conversion experience later in life and labeled all his earlier work as frivolous. I got further in The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich than W&P.

I actually kind of agree with you, Dariya. I don't usually talk about it because I know a lot of people like Harry Potter (and no judgement if you do!) but like the more I read it, the less I liked it 😢

Woah, really?! So that includes War and Peace, then? I wonder why he said that!

Yeah, I can't say for sure but I didn't get it, either. The thing is, though, I think I see books differently now than I did when i read most of the mainstream books that I read so I have no clue if my current opinion is actually what my current one would actually be, yk? Who knows, though? 🤷 I'm going to say I agree with you for now, though!!

I’m actually surprised, cause a lot of people LOVE PJO. I really couldn’t see the appeal. Percy annoys me.

I'll trust y'all with that series, then!
Haha I think there's like a little reply option at the bottom of each comment. Do you see it?

I don't have a reply button on my Android XD kinda annoying. only on my laptop. and I liked Percy Jackson first time I read it but now it's just meh
Unblemished by Sara Ella. I know a lot of people like it, but the plot was super confusing and don’t even get me started on the love triangle. 🤢

Yeah i'm not allowed to read Harry Potter because my dad said it's witchcraft, but other than that I can read whatever I find interesting in the library!! Yeah Harry Potter's really famous so that's pretty much how my dad knows about it.

I agree about Harry Potter. I try to steer clear of series where the protagonist is a witch/warlock/wizard, which rules out a lot of mainstream fantasy. LOTR is great because if you read The Silmarillion, Tolkien explains that all the power comes from a single Creator (can't remember his name for God at the moment), and the wizards' magic is more like a gift of responsibility. John White's Archives of Anthropos series (similar to Narnia) is good for explaining this difference. That series did a lot to shape my reading choices.I really liked A Series of Unfortunate Events, especially the Netflix miniseries! I think you need a somewhat morbid sense of humor to enjoy it.

It was Eru Ilúvatar, right? Haven't heard of the Archives of Anthropos before but it sounds cool!!
I was obsessed with A Series of Unfortunate Events at one point but then I forgot all about when when I found Middle-earth 😅😂😂

Stephen King...mostly cuz it's just so dark and demonic...and I hate horror stories....I also hate whoever the author of Harry Potter is. (sorry to anyone who loves that series) but I just don't like her. Be prepared for a sorta rant...
I get that like Chronicles of Narnia had magic in it, but it didn't show it as a good, or saving thing. It was an evil thing. but in Harry Potter it shows that Magic can be good, and save people and blah blah blah...and I know..some of you may say..well It's just reading it, and it's just fictional...but what about if you think about murdering someone it's the same as murder? What about those kids who are christians, but re in act those "spells" in play. Anyway I don't want to get too deep into it. but that's my reason :)

Yeah, when I liked Harry Potter, I thought witches were kinda cool and stuff and that def leads down a bad path. It doesn't seem like it's bad to like HP, it's so "innocent" and "can't harm anyone" or whatever, but it opens the door to lots of other stuff that can get a lot more serious.

Same. My mom doesn't like Halloween, and our family doesn't celebrate it. I hate how society makes so many things innocent but they're not! >:(

That's cool! A few years ago before covid, we have a park near our church, and we went there and handed out Tracts about how to become a christian, and the gospel to people, and invited them to our church
