Hiraeth | 11 comments I bought his book „kite runner“ (in german) a year or so ago bc the seller of the bookshop recommended it and few months ago I literally bought the same book in a bookevent AGAIN (but this time in turkish) bc the seller there recommended it too and bc it was a different language I didn’t recognize the title but tbh I probably also forgot that I had this book in the first place haha. So after two readers&sellers recommended it I really believe that it’s a really good book but after reading that it’s really sad I‘m kinda scared buuut I will still read it. Probably in a month or so and will comment how I felt about it <3

Isbah | 4 comments a friend recommended "the kite runner" to me, and it was SO good. I actually finished it in one night. the end was kind of bittersweet; I liked it but wished it could have ended differently.

A (pinkwardah) | 4 comments I would implore anyone who is interested in looking at the potential political bias that authors have to look into the guys history. I personally know alot of afghans who find his books insulting as he seems to be an American mouth piece when it comes to the politics he carries and expresses in his books. that being said, I haven't personally read any of his books but from what I understood, he doesn't shy away from including American talking points in his books.

He does represent the Talibans in a bad light and even though I don't know much about it, I'd say the story was more about the main character's personal struggles. At least to me it was.

nargis 𐙚⋆°.⋆♡ | 1 comments As an Afghan whose parents briefly experienced the taliban, I honestly found the Kite Runner by Hosseini to quite accurately depict Afghanistan during that time. It portrayed the taliban “badly” because they were bad. Forget about the ways they weaponised religion and all the other oppressive regimes they enforced, they were just generally a bad government and did nothing for the nation. However, I just found the plot of this book left me with so many questions and not in a good way. Also I found the book lacked proper context when it came to complex issues, hence why some people feel the text is a western/colonial depiction of Afghanistan.
