Forget about a show in my series where I review Marvel Disney+ shows? I could never! Anyway, What If...? is the first animated show produced by Marvel Studios. It acts just like the comics it is based on. There is this godly being called Uatu the Watcher. He tours us through various alternate realities and we see a story happen. Each episode is its own reality. From a story where T’challa becomes Star-Lord to a story where Thor throws a massive space party on Earth, there’s some good variety here. I’m just going to be upfront with this. This show gets four stars out of five. It’s better than Loki. But why do I feel this way? Well, I complained with Loki that its narrative really didn’t go anywhere and had a weak finale. The setup was all super engaging but I felt let down at the end. What If...? is a stark contrast. You don’t really realize for most of the season that there even is an overarching story. But they still feed you set up all the same. And then at the end, it all still comes together in a satisfying way. The end of the story was being set up and we the viewers didn’t even realize that was happening. As for the individual episodes themselves, some are better than others. Some will definitely be for different kinds of people. Some people may not resonate with the show’s dramatic moments but find its humor funny. I feel the show excels best with its humor but I also find its more serious moments to be done well enough as well. Overall, it’s just fun to see all these characters in environments that we would never otherwise see them in.
