Max doesn't have any close friends that she can talk with. She isn't on solid ground with David any longer, and David is friends with Nick. Max is getting close to Lucy while working on this project. She sees Lucy is in a relationship that Max is coming to realize that she wants for herself.
Max trusts Lucy to give her insight, and validate her thoughts or call her on it. Lucy won't lie.
Max sees in Sean and Lucy something really, really rare: true love and total trust. If they have it, then it exists and Max wants to know how that happens for two people when she loves Nick, but he keeps a part of himself separate from her.I thought it would have been helpful if Lucy has shared with Max that it was a journey for her and Sean, that their total trust didn't always exist.
I agree with both of you about Max really paying attention to Lucy and Sean’s relationship. She wants what they have and before meeting them, she knew she wanted more but didn’t know what it looked like. Max opening up was a sign she wanted Lucy’s help in understanding her own needs. You only do that with people you not only trust but believe can hear you and have the skills to let you work it out.
Another important, growth moment for Max.
Another important, growth moment for Max.
Anita, I thought it would be helpful for Lucy to share her journey, but Max never asked her about the journey to get where they are. Max observed what they have now, and made her decision that she wants that kind of relationship.
That's why I wished Lucy would have told her it took time and some pitfalls for them to get the relationship they have now. It wasn't that easy for them and Max needed to know that.
Anita, I thought she did tell her that they weren't always truthful and open with each other but learned that they had to be.
If Lucy told her, it doesn't appear that Max absorbed it, at least at first. It was really great to see Max doing some more introspection and growth. Also, their working relationship helped Lucy too.
