Deep down I believe John knew Blair was guilty, but he didn't want to believe it. Blair put the previous murders in John's head so he could trust in her innocence. Once Max was called, Blair knew there was a big chance that Max would figure it all out. John hoped beyond hope that Max could link Peter's death to the other cases and it would remove any doubt in his head. Unfortunately, Blair was a selfish woman who didn't want to share John's love with anyone, not even their son.
I agree. Deep down John knew Blair was guilty and he realized she was manipulating him. I think Blair misplayed her hand. I don't think she realized that involving John would lead to him contacting Max. That or Blair thought she could control what Max did with the information John gave her. She for sure didn't see how it could come back and bite her.
I don’t think Blair ever considered John would reach out to Max! That must have really thrown her when he did. The investigation was damaging enough but having access to Dillon Kincaid? Game over.
I also believe deep down John had doubts, which was why he reached out to Max. He knew he could trust her to tell the truth.

I also think that in the back of John's mind was the possibility that Blair had murdered their son. Blair fed the cold case information to John in hopes that would steer him into believing she was innocent. I don't think Blair ever thought that John would contact Max about the case. And yes, Dillon put the nail in her coffin with his testimony.Max believed that the prosecution had information about Blair that they would bring out in the trial. At that point they didn't have Dillon on their roster. Did we ever learn what the prosecution had?
I believe it was the timeline. They could prove that Blair wasn't where she said she was. Also, they had her research on Justin's case on her computer.
I didn't know until later that they did gain access to her work computer research. The circumstantial timeline evidence may or may not have convicted her in the jury's mind, but it was just so horrid to imagine a mother so jealous of her child that she would kill him. I don't know how much doubt of Blair's innocence John carried in his heart when he contacted Max; maybe he did see that his wife wasn't reacting right consistently about her "grief."
Remember that part of Dillon’s testimony where he showed her behavior with the police during questioning and then her behavior with John a minute later? I think that was the turning point for John.
Yes, that was another very interesting tidbit that clued me in that Blair was not what she wanted her husband to think that she was.
