Goodreads is unique in the sense that authors can hold their own giveaways under the giveaways link. But recently I have been receiving emails about books that are on my shelf that are recently listed as giveaways.

I know there is a slight stipulation as to review the book if you win on some, but I am wondering what does everyone else think of this feature? Is it a good feature? What about the email alerts?

A lot of people enter the giveaways, but not a lot of people read the books that are being contested sometimes.

I entered giveaways as a chance to read a little known author that I wouldn't see on the stacks along with the big names. That and I always if I can review each book I read.

I think it is extremely important to follow through and review the books as best as you can. I actually feel sort of bad when I win because I do not have a huge following for my reviews, but if the right person gets a giveaway and reviews it, then that can mean big things for the author and even just having some, hopefully, positive reviews on their book can be a boon. I only put my name in for the kind of books I think I'd be interested in and I make it a point to move them up in my personal queue.

Because of goodreads and their giveaways, I have started leaving reviews for all the books I read, giveaway or not.
