Fairy Tale Retellings! discussion

I didn't see a topic for this one, yet. I hope it's okay to create it?

I thought I'd start off with my most recent read: It's Gilded by Marissa Meyer.

I have a ton of feelings about this one. Of all the Rumpels I've read, it was the most true to the fairy tale...but the writing put me off. Maybe someone here will enjoy it more than I did?

I'd really love to come across one that wows me.

I'll go ahead and throw the others I know about out here:

Small Favors by Erin A. Craig
I found this one to be a bit more cerebral in the telling. It was way more focused on the concepts of the fairy tale than the retelling.

Twisted: The Girl Who Uncovered Rumpelstiltskin's Name by Bonnie M. Hennessy
I don't remember much about this one, honestly...must have been okay.

Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik
I honestly haven't read this one, yet, but I loved her other story, so I bet it's good!!

I've never read this book before but it is a Rumpelstilskin story.

Oooh! It says it's Rumpel AND Rapunzel! I'm adding that to my list!

A Curse Dark as Gold - I loved this one!

The Rumpelstiltskin Problem - For something a little different... this one is a bunch of short story retellings of Rumpelstiltskin. It's been a while since I read it, but I remember enjoying it!

I read A Curse Dark as Gold before! Although I haven't heard of The Rumpelstiltskin Problem before, but it seems fascinating so just added it to my to read list. Thanks so much for the recommendations. :)

Rump: The True Story of Rumpelstiltskin is amazing! One of my favorites!

I just read the synapsis and it sounds interesting. I like how it's from Rumpelstiltskin's perspective and how he's not only not the bad guy, but also a kid instead of an old man.

I read Gilded and thought it was pretty good! I was in despair when it turned out to be a cliffhanger and I had to wait to read the next one.

I really like rump too! haven't read it in a while, maybe I'll re-read soon

Yes! K.M. Shea's Rumpelstiltskin was pretty good! I was told that I needed to read her other series The Fairytale Enchantress because Stil was in it and I didn't feel like he was a round character in Rumpelstilskin.

Ooo is he! I've been meaning to read them too!
Stil is probably the best guy in that series.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who read Rumpelstiltskin before The Fairytale Enchantress! lol

I didn't want to start The Fairytale Enchantress until it is finished.

Rumpelstiltskin by K.M. Shea is my favorite too. I’ve read all the Timeless Fairy Tales twice… Except for Wild Swans (the love triangle drives me crazy). The Fairty Tale Enchantress series ties in really well. And the constant sarcasm is awesome!

Goldheart by Kenley Davidson is really great too, though.
