                                ~BINGO Mini Challenge~

This is an optional mini challenge for our UNO players.

◈ Books with a read date between February 14 - February 28, 2015 count
◈ As a team, get "BINGO" by reading books for five squares horizontally, vertically, or diagonally to create a line (there are 12 possible lines)
◈ Only one book per square
◈ For each line completed, your team receives a "BINGO Bonus" of being able to chose one card in any hand for the duration of the challenge (Feb 1 - April 30) that you can claim double points for
◈ Books used for BINGO do not need to be separate books for what you are claiming for your UNO hands
◈ "Free Space" square means you can read any book
◈ The usual book length rules apply, Books must be more than 160 pages in length and Children's books and Graphic Novels can not be used unless by word count they can be verified as more than 40,000 words using arbookfind.com
◈ Team spreadsheets have been updated with a BINGO tab so that you can track your books and claim your bingo lines

◈ Colours on the cover need to be the predominant colour. If unsure you can post here for a ruling
◈ It is one book per square, but remember that lines overlap, so in total to cover all the bingo squares is 25 books

This looks good. Just a quick question. For books set in Europe, does that exclude the UK or could you use a book set in the UK for either?

No, it needs to be mainland Europe because we do have UK as a separate square

A word about genres....

When you go to the book page on Goodreads, on the right hand side is "genres". The genres listed here are acceptable. So one book may be listed as "romance", "fiction" and "fantasy" and then it is up to you to work out which square works best for you.

As these genres aren't always the most reliable, if you think your book's genre isn't listed you can post it here for a ruling (I check how it is marketed by the publisher and listed at some libraries to determine genre)

So a book like Naked in Death could be used for either mystery or romance?

There are two slots of "First in the Series" and two of "Current best seller". The books for each same slot must be different, correct?

Thats where the captains record when they have claimed the points. So if you wanted to claim double points for a card in hand 8 and you want to claim it today, you would enter 17 Feb under "date points claimed" and "Feb Hand 8" under the other column

Ok, I just have a question in order to clarify something. Can we claim books that we have read for the Uno challenge and if they fit for a bingo square for both or do we have to read different books for each. I am just a tad confused as to if we get credit for both Uno and Bingo for the same book.

Books for bingo do not need to be separate books you are claiming for your UNO hands, but only books read between Feb 14 and 28 count for bingo

Question: For the square with "first published in non-english language", does the book have to be published in English as well, or is it enough with just the non-english language?

Just first published as non-English is fine. It doesn't need to have been published in English

Regarding the cover color...does it matter if it's the front or back cover as long as it is the predominant color?

We go with front covers (as we can't verify back covers)

Can my team use Ceremony for "read any award nominee or winner" (row4 column3)?
Because in 1983 it was a "Shamus Award Nominee for Best PI Hardcover"

I'm still a little confused as to what to put. We just finished a vertical line, but I'm not sure what I should put (Team X-Men).

That may help? If not let me know. On the BINGO tab of your spreadsheet you should have your vertical line "date completed" in column L. Then when you decide on a card you want to claim double points for, mark the "Date Points Claimed" in column M and the Month and Hand Number in column N. Then on your month tab, double the points for that card (e.g. 60 points for a Wild instead of 30)

After completing a line... Can we chose any card for double points or should it be one of the 5 that complete the bingo line? can we use a card read before 2/14?

Hi Karen, would or work as black? And would one of the covers of Pride and Prejudice (sorry, I can't figure out how to link a specific edition) work as white or pink?

The bullet is ok for black (the other is more blue)

is ok for white. I don't see a pink version, (if you know the ISBN just throw that into the search box to link the cover)
