Ellen | 3535 comments Carrie Hoffman is still a bit miffed at her pilot husband Bill who is leaving for a flight after he promised he would be home for their son's little league opener. As she opens the door for the internet cable technician into her home she follows Bill outside to let him know how disappointed she is and their son Scott will be broken hearted. Once she returns inside she is shocked to see that the technician has strapped on a suicide vest and is holding a gun on Scott and baby Elise. Carrie is soon wearing a vest of her own as the technician "Sam" explains that her husband will soon have a choice to make: crash the plane he is about to pilot or his family will die.

Bill jauntily greets the crew members and the 144 passengers as he straps in for the flight from Los Angeles to New York City. He is slightly concerned when he can't reach Carrie by phone before takeoff but that concern is about to turn to terror. A FaceTime message appears on his screen and there he sees his family held hostage by a terrorist. Bill is told that he must choose and, if he doesn't, there is a Plan B on board his plane. During a trip to the lavatory, Bill confides in the head steward Jo a veteran of many flights and a trusted friend. The two of them must come up with a plan to not only save Bill's family but the 149 'souls' on board.

This was unrelenting suspense from page 1 and it was one heck of a ride. Bill, Carrie, Jo and several other people emerge as possible heroes and the question of who exactly 'Plan B' might be is frightening. My only problem with the story is one part of the ending is a bit much to swallow but this debut novel has set T.J. Newman up as a 'to-read' author. Exhilarating!

Booknblues | 12202 comments I have this on my tbr, with your review I've decided to move it up, thank you.

Ellen | 3535 comments I hope you enjoy it BnB. Some of the reviews I have seen are absolutely scathing! I like a bit of pure escapism with a thrilling storyline so this one was a good fit for me.
