Werner | 2302 comments Many of you have probably noticed that Goodreads is currently doing voting for its annual Doodreads Choice Awards. One of our members commented yesterday (on another thread) that he's never read any of the books they're asking people to vote on. (I'm typically in the same boat, though in my case it's because, in any given year, I usually don't read more than one or two books newly published in that year, and newly-published titles are what's in view there.) Anyway, he asked about the possibility of this group doing our own Christian Goodreaders Choice Award.

Polls can be created here on Goodreads for just one group (we use one every year to pick our group read). For those, however, the program only allows one question per poll. So it wouldn't really be practical to pick winners in multiple categories, as the Goodreads Choice Awards do. But it would be possible to create a poll to pick a single favorite book newly published in 2021, and it might be interesting! What do the rest of you think about the idea?

If there's serious interest in the idea, my suggestion would be for me to set up the poll soon after the first of the year. In the meantime, we could throw this thread open for people to nominate their favorites as possible choices to put in the poll. (I see that Goodresds has narrowed its opening round nominees to 20 in each category; perhaps we could narrow ours as well.) I'd like to ask our author members to please not nominate your own books; and at least initially, I'd suggest that each person make no more than one suggestion.

Werner | 2302 comments Hmmm! I'm not detecting any groundswell of interest in this idea.

Georgann I just saw this today. Like you, however, I rarely read new books. I like being able to read all the books in a series without waiting! So I doubt I'd be much help!

Janelle (janelle5) | 613 comments I’m like you Werner. I rarely read any newly released books. So there’s not much point in me participating.

Werner | 2302 comments I'm thinking that this idea probably isn't a good fit for our group, then! It would probably work better in a group which has a higher proportion of people who avidly seek out newly-published books.
