Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Starting out strong as this morning after cleaning my house I sat down and read a manga!

Today’s post is on Love of Kill, Vol. 1 by FE. It is 164 pages long and is published by Yen Press. The cover has the two main characters on it and wraps around to the back. The intended reader is someone who is interested in dark storylines, romance, and josei manga. There is mild foul language, no sex, and some violence in this manga. The story is told from third person close of the two main characters moving as the story does. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Ryang-Ha Song is an infamous master assassin who never fails to eliminate his targets. More than twenty organizations have taken out bounties on his head, yet no one can even approach him. But when he sets his sights on fellow assassin Chateau Dankworth, it's not to kill her—it's to seduce her! She may want nothing to do with him, but as he starts killing her targets for her, she's left with no choice but to play along with his games…

Review- This was a very interesting first volume, doing a lot of set-up and interesting characters. Chateau is a new bounty hunter and soon after she starts she meets a very famous assassin Ryang-Ha Song. He takes a liking to her and we have the beginning of our story. There is so much to learn about this world. Why does the underworld move so publicly, why has Chateau become a bounty hunter and what is going on with Ryang-Ha and many more. The art is fine, not the best I have seen but I like it just fine. The volume ends in a cliffhanger with Chateau in danger because of Ryang-Ha, so I am looking forward to the next volume to see what is going to happen.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own volume.

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Todays’ post is on Takane & Hana, Vol. 5 by Yuki Shiwasu. It is 200 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has Takane being over the top, like normal. As it is the fifth in the series you need to have read the first four volumes to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes comedy manga, over the top characters and shojo manga. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this manga. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Hana’s usual Christmas family celebration gets canceled, so she can’t help but feel disappointed at the prospect of spending Christmas Eve alone. Takane decides to ask Hana out to dinner for that night, but then a beautiful medical school student named Rino shows up declaring her love for Takane! Does this mean Hana has a love rival?!

Review- This volume picks up right at the last one left at Hana’s school for the school festival. Takane shows up to an embarrassment but ends up getting embarrassed himself. Then we move into the meat of this volume with Christmas and an old friend of Takane’s coming to see him. Rino is an old friend from school and Takane is more than a little annoyed with her. She picks on Hana and flirts Takane into annoyance. But there is more to Rino than Hana knows and that’s this volume. Takane’s is not in too much of his normal mindset in this volume and I wonder what is going on in the background to make him tone it down. Hana is starting to realize that there is more going on with her and Takane than either wants to think about. I look forward to reading the next volume.

I give this volume a Four out of FIve stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Today’s post is on Spy x Family, Vol. 2 by Tatsuya Endo. It is 200 pages long and is published by Viz Media. The cover has Anya on it looking cute. As it is the second volume in the series, you need to have read the first volume to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes shonen, humorous, and spy manga. There is no foul language, no sex, and mild comedic violence in this manga. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Twilight must infiltrate the prestigious Eden Academy to get close to his target Donovan Desmond, but has he ruined his daughter Anya’s chances with his outburst during the admissions interview? Perhaps the truly impossible mission this time is making sure Anya both becomes an exemplary student and befriends Donovan’s arrogant son Damian!

Review- Volume two starts where volume one left with Twilight and family waiting to see if Anya can get into Eden Academy. When she does get in, Ayna runs amuck. She punches the boy in the face for being a jerk. Then we meet Yor’s younger brother, who works for the secret police. This manga is one of the funniest manga I have read in years. The characters are great, the art is good, and the setting of a post-war city like Berlin is great. One would not think that a post-war city would make a good setting for a comedy manga but Endo pulls it off with his hilarious characters and plots. Endo is doing a wonderful job with this manga and I cannot wait to read the next volume.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Today’s post is on Rasetsu, Vol. 9 by Chika Shiomi. It is 208 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has Rasetsu and Yako on it. As it is the ninth in the series, you need to have read the first eight volumes to understand the story. There is no foul language, mild sexuality, and mild violence in this manga. The story is told from third person close of Rasetsu. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- When the evil spirit shows up on Rasetsu’s birthday as promised, Rasetsu and her friends engage in a final showdown against it. Will Rasetsu be able to defeat her demon and live? Or will this birthday be her last?

Review- An excellent conclusion to this series. All answers are given and a happy ending for this dark story is well earned. Rasetsu and friends are finally facing down the evil spirit who wants to eat or something Rasetsu for her power. Kuryu has been revealed to be dead all this time and now he is being used by the bad guy to try and take Resetsu. She has to remember everything that she has learned in the past five years and Yako has to choose to love her with all his heart. The final showdown is very good with all the characters facing their weakness and overcoming them. I really enjoyed this series, the characters were fun, the story was interesting, and the art was good. Shiomi is an excellent manga author and I look forward to reading more from her. I would recommend this series.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Today’s post is on Heaven's Spite by Lilith Saintcrow. It is 320 pages long and is published by Orbit Books. It is the fifth in the Jill Kismet series and you need to have read the first four volumes to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes dark urban fantasy. There is foul language, no sex, and lots of voilence. The story is told from third person close of the main character, Jill. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- When a new hellbreed comes calling, playing nice isn't an option. Jill Kismet has no choice but to seek treacherous allies -- Perry, the devil she knows, and Melisande Belisa, the cunning Sorrows temptress whose true loyalties are unknown.

Kismet knows Perry and Belisa are likely playing for the same thing -- her soul. It's just too bad, because she expects to beat them at their own game. Except their game is vengeance.

Nobody plays vengeance like Kismet. But if the revenge she seeks damns her, her enemies might get her soul after all. . .

Review- A fantastic novel in a great urban fantasy series. Jill has some big trouble in this volume with Belisa and the Sorrow is powerless. Jill has to fight herself to not kill the helpless Sorrow and she has to discover what Perry is really going for now. This volume is non-stop action from one scene to the next with Jill mostly chasing her own tail but it was a good volume and the ending was just incredible. While I did guess what Jill was going to do to stop Perry but reading was still shocking. The writing, per usual, is just wonderful with Jill continuing being the center of the story and pulling the reader along with her. Jill is not an easy character but I really like spending time with her and seeing how she saves herself and her city. I am looking forward to seeing how Saintcrow is going to finish this series out.

I give this volume Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this book with my own money.

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Today’s Nonfiction post is Spy x Family, vol. 3 by Tatsuya Endo. The cover has Yor on it with her knife. As it is the third in the series you need to have read the first two volumes to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes humorous spy shonen manga. There is no foul language, no sex, and mild violence in this manga. The story is told from third person close of the three main characters. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Twilight has overcome many challenges in putting together the Forger family, but now all his hard work might come undone when Yor’s younger brother Yuri pops in for a surprise visit! Can Twilight outsmart Yuri, who actually works for the Ostanian secret service?!

Review- In the third volume we see more of Yor’s younger brother and learn a little about Yor’s past. She’s worked very hard to raise Yuri and they have a very strong bond. Most of the volume is about Anya trying to get a star to aid in Loid’s mission and she does in a wonderfully heroic way. Then we meet some data dogs and that is where the next volume is going to start. I liked spending more time with Ayna and the trouble she gets into in the school and out of it. This series is just so much fun, I look forward to reading every volume.

I give this book a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Today’s post is on Revolutionary Girl Utena, Vol. 1: To Till by Chiho Saitō and Be-Papas. The cover has Utena on it with a sword. The intended reader is someone who likes classic manga, shojo manga, and very deep plots. There is no foul language, no sex, and some violence in this series. The story is told from third person close of the main character, Utena. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- In the first adventure in the historic series, Utena faces a sword duel, an unwelcome engagement, and a mandate to revolutionize the world!

Review- This is a classic shojo manga that set a standard for the genre. The story starts with Utena dealing with the loss of her parents and being rescued by a mystery man who tells her to never lose her noble heart and gives her a ring. Fast forward Utena discovers that a private school has the same crest as her ring and she knows that she has to go to that school. From there everything goes very fast and the plot just gets bigger and more complicated. There are secret duels, a girl who can magically produce a real sword and she belongs to the winner of the duels. Utena is in over her head but she just keeps going forward. There is so much to like about this manga from the art to the intense story, I cannot recommend this series enough. I look forward to unrevealing the story and discovering all the secrets of this world.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Today’s post is on Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku, Vol 1 by Fujita. The cover has the two main characters on it. The intended reader is someone who likes josei manga and comedy manga. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this series. The story is told from third person close of the main characters, Narumi and Hirotaka. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- The awkward, romantic comedy manga about geeks in love that inspired the new anime! Can a professional man who's secretly a hardcore gamer and a woman who's secretly a fujoshi date without their hobbies getting in the way, or revealing each other's secrets?
Extra-long book includes 2 Japanese volumes!
Narumi and Hirotaka are, by all appearances, a power couple. They're young, good-looking professionals. But they have secrets from everyone but each other: They're serious geeks! Narumi is a fujoshi, and Hirotaka's a hardcore gamer. Their sweet, awkward love story started life as a webcomic before becoming a full-blown manga series by popular demand, and is about to become a major anime series in the work.

Review- A great josei manga about being a nerd and how hard that can make dating and your love life. Narumi and Hirotaka have been friends for years and one day out of the blue, he asks if she wants to date him. This is a very funny manga with some interesting characters. The main characters are both hard core nerds or otakus in different ways but they accept each other as they are. There are silly misunderstandings played for laughs, the best friends are great, and as a hard core nerd myself the humor was on point. One neat little extra in the manga is at the bottom of the pages there are little author's notes about what is going on, on the page and they just make everything even funnier to me. I look forward to the next volume.

I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Today’s post is on Spy x Family, vol. 4 by Tatsuya Endo. It is 192 pages long and is published by Viz Media. The cover is gray with a white dog in a chair in the center. As it is the fourth volume in the series you need to have read the first three volumes of the series to understand the story. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this manga. The story is told from third person close of the main characters, moving as the story needs. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- The Forgers look into adding a dog to their family, but this is no easy task—especially when Twilight has to simultaneously foil an assassination plot against a foreign minister! The perpetrators plan to use trained dogs for the attack, but Twilight gets some unexpected help to stop these terrorists.

Review- We get a volume long story in this one with a plot to assassinate a minister and the whole family gets involved. Loud is working to stop, Yor is trying to manage Anya, who just wants to find a dog and she finds a great one. The dog. Bond can see the future and Anya can read his mind when he does that and together they secretly save the day. There is so much going on in this volume plot wise but I had a really good time reading it. I liked seeing Loid doing his thing, Anya getting into trouble and saving the day, and Yor kicking people in the face. I look forward to seeing Anya and Bond get into trouble together.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Today’s post is on Fever by Lauren DeStefano. It is the second in her The Chemical Garden trilogy. It is 341 pages long and is published by Simon and Schuster. The cover is tan with a girl in the middle holding a tarot card. As it is the second novel in the trilogy you need to have read the first volume to understand the story. There is mild foul language, discussing of sex and sexuality, and mild violence in this novel. The story is told from first person close of the main character, Rhine. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the dust jacket- Rhine and Gabriel have escaped the mansion, but danger is never far behind.
Running away brings Rhine and Gabriel right into a trap, in the form of a twisted carnival whose ringmistress keeps watch over a menagerie of girls. Just as Rhine uncovers what plans await her, her fortune turns again. With Gabriel at her side, Rhine travels through an environment as grim as the one she left a year ago - surroundings that mirror her own feelings of fear and hopelessness.
The two are determined to get to Manhattan, to relative safety with Rhine’s twin brother, Rowan. But the road there is long and perilous - and in a world where young women only live to age twenty and young men die at twenty-five, time is precious. Worse still, they can’t seem to elude Rhine’s father-in-law, Vaughn, who is determined to bring Rhine back to the mansion...by any means necessary.

Review- Rhine and Gabriel have escaped and are on the run into a world that neither of them know. Most of the story is about Rhine and Gabriel seeing what the world is really like now and doing their best to not die. Gabriel is sweet and loyal but in over his head and Rhine is getting sick but not with whatever kills young adults, something else, something her father in law did to her. I enjoyed this volume more than the first one, I liked seeing more of the world, I liked seeing Rhine and Gabriel working together and exploring the world in their search for Rhine’s twin. The world is hard and our heroes learn over the course of the story and grow. The ending is good with Rhine seeing her brother and now she has a fight to get free from her father in law. I am curious about how the story is going to end.

I give this volume a Three out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this series with my own money.

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Today’s post is on Yakuza Lover, vol 3 by Nozomi Mino. It is 176 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. As it is the third volume in the series you need to have read the first two to understand the plot. The cover has Yumi and Oya together with Oya holding a sword on it. There is mild foul language, lots sex and sexuality, and no violence in this novel. The story is told from first person close of the main character, Yumi. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the dust jacket- Reunited at last, Oya and Yuri savor their first night back in each other’s arms by making love until Yuri faints from exhaustion. Later, Yuri returns to her normal life in Japan, but it isn’t long before Oya comes to pick her up. He’s prepared a private villa for the two of them to relive their summertime romp together. But it soon becomes clear that Oya has been hiding something from Yuri.

Review- We start where the last volume left off with Oya returning to Yumi after fighting with the other mob guy and that is the most plot in this volume, with one short section about Yumi’s job. The rest of the volume is them being together. They do some talking about their relationship and just living in the present but most of this volume is them just having sex. The art is good, the story is still the weak part of the manga but the characters are interesting and I like seeing them together and happy but we see someone else becoming interested in Yumi for some reason and I am sure that will be the drama for the next few volumes.

I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this series with my own money.

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Today’s post is on The Way of the House Husband, vol 6 by Kousuke Oono. It is 168 pages long and is published by Viz Media. As it is the sixth volume in the series you need to have read the first five to understand the plot. The cover has Tatsu and his housewife friend’s on it. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this novel. The story is told from third person close of the main character, Tatsu. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the dust jacket- All of Tatsu’s hustling and networking since leaving the yakuza has earned him an offer he can’t refuse—an invitation to run with the women’s association, the movers and shakers of his neighborhood. But before he can be initiated, the Immortal Dragon must prove to the board’s heavyweights that he truly can hack it as a homemaker. It will be the greatest test of this househusband’s skills yet!

Review- Lots of little stories in this volume from Tatsu joining a housewife’s association to shopping for Miku, more of the crazy fun that this manga has given in the past. Of course there are the funny moments of people thinking that Tatsu is making yakuza threats and of Tatsu misunderstanding everyone about him in yakuza ways. But we get to see more of the moment when Tatsu and Miku met but just for a moment then a gag happens and the serious moment is over. I love everything about this series. I cannot wait to read the next volume.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this series with my own money.

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Today’s post is on Spy X Family, vol. 5 by Tatsuya Endo. It is 208 pages long and is published by Viz Media. The cover has Yuri with flowers on it. As it is the fifth in the series, you need to have read the first four volumes to understand what is going on. The intended reader is someone who likes spies and comedy manga. There is no foul language, no sex, and mild violence in this book. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- “Anya Forger has been trying her best to befriend Damian Desmond, the son of the powerful Ostanian political leader Donovan Desmond, but her attempts have been constantly rebuffed. Despite the setbacks, Anya is determined to gain access to the Desmonds’ inner circle and even devises a new plan—acing her midterm exams to earn stella stars! Can the academically challenged Anya pull off this feat for the sake of world peace?

Review- Lots of different stories in this volume from meeting a spy for hire who is very bad at his job to meeting NIghtfall, another agent who works with Loid and is in love with him. Our core four are great with Yor trying to learn to cook and still making people ill to Anya trying and failing to become friends with Damian. There is not much movement of the plot, this volume is more about character development and introducing new characters. We get to see some of Damain’s private life and see what pressure he is living under. Anya is still the best and I think that she is starting to work on Damian. Next volume I think is going to be more spy centric and I am looking forward to it.

I give this book a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Today’s post is on Yakuza Lover, Vol. 4 by Nozomi Mino. It is 176 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has the two main characters in an embrace. As it is the fourth in the series you need to have read the ifrs three volumes. There is mild foul language, sex and sexuality, and mild violence in this manga. The intended reader is someone who likes josei manga, adult themes, and complicated love stories. The story is told from third person close of the main character, Yuri. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Yuri and Oya’s relationship faces complications when Oya’s father, the boss of the syndicate, issues a warning to Yuri, demanding she cut ties with Oya and the yakuza. When Oya finds out, the situation turns explosive. Meanwhile, a mysterious woman enters the fray, adding brand-new challenges to the star-crossed couple’s growing love.

Review- Most of this volume is fluff with some plot threads being put out there. Yuri meets Oya’s father and the boss of the family. She impresses him with her bravery and loyalty to Oya. Then the story jumps to an unknown woman who wants Oya for herself. But the rest of the volume is Yuri and Oya being together and having fun both in and out of bed. I like to see that Yuri is having her own life outside of Oya and their relationship, yes she does think about it and plan for how it will effect her life but Yuri is doing the things she wants. She is not just waiting for Oya to call, she has friends, school, and a job. I look forward to seeing what is going to happen next.

I give this book a Five out of of FIve stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money. .

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Today’s post is on The Water Dragon's Bride, Vol. 8 by Rei Toma. It is 181 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has Kurose and the god of darkness on it. It is the eighth in the series, so you need to have read the first seven to understand the characters. There is no foul language, no sex, and mild violence in this book. The intended reader is someone who likes shojo manga, manga with dark villains, and mythology. The story is third person close of the main character, Olivia. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Asahi is captured by a human who’s using the god of darkness to take over the world! Trapped in the underworld, Asahi resolves to figure out the true intention of this ruthless boy while the water dragon god and Subaru form a tag team to try and save her!

Review- At last a real villain has appeared for this series. A god of darkness who has a human, like the water dragon god but this one is full of malice and enjoys tormenting all around it. Asahi is able to escape them but then we learn how the human Kurose came to be in the god of darkness’ power. I am very curious to learn if the darkness god is really as bad as it seems or if it is just innocent to the harm of its curiosity and power. But Koruse has been badly damaged from life so he is drawn to darkness and that will be his cross to carry. Only three volume left so I am curious about how this is going to wrap up.

I give this book a Four out of of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money. .

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Today’s post is on Love in Focus, Vol 3 by Yoko Nogiri. It is 192 pages long and is published by Kodansha Comics. The cover has Mako with her camera on it. It is the third in the series, so you need to have read the first two to understand the characters and story. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this book. The intended reader is someone who likes shojo manga, simple love stories, and slice of life manga. The story is third person close of the main character, Mako. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Swept along by Kei’s suggestion to give dating a try, Mako struggles to see where she really fits in. Meanwhile, Mitsuru has become instant, and in her attempts to get back the friendship they had, Make discovers his hidden past. Mako, Kei, and Mitsuru now have to confront their own feelings, and they might get a little lost before they find their true answers…

Review- A good ending for a very sweet series. Kei is trying to get Mako to see him and she agrees to try and date him. That makes Mitsuru deal with his own feelings for Mako but he does not have the courage to speak up about them. Instead he pushes her away until his past comes back to see him. Some plot in this final volume but more character growth. All three have to face their feelings and they have to handle their feelings like caring human beings. For a love triangle manga, this is a good one with no stupid drama, just teens discovering themselves and what they want from the future. I enjoyed this manga and I would recommend it.

I give this manga a Four out of of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money. .

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Today’s post is on Sweat and Soap, Vol 4 by Kintetsu Yamada. It is 189 pages long and is published by Kodansha Comics. The cover is an illustration of the main characters, Asako and Natori. There is no foul language, mild sex and sexuality, and no violence in this book. The intended reader is someone who likes josei manga, mature love stories, and sweet characters. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Dinner and Dread
Natori and Asako are back from their first trip together, a romantic getaway to Hokkaido. But when Asako returns to the office, her anxiety comes back, too, because it’s time to let their secret out and reveal their relationship to their coworkers. Natori sets up an outing to introduce Asako to his teammates in product development. But this is a far cry from the accounting department, and Natori’s coworkers all seem fashionable, ambitious, cool- on a whole different level! Suddenly, those moments spent soaking in the hot spring bath seem so far away!

Review- The blurb is just the first part of the story but the main plot threads in this volume are about Natori and Asako starting to talk about moving in together. Natori brings it up very casually but then they both panic a bit about it for different reasons. Natori is afraid that Asako has misunderstood him and Asako is worried about him not liking her as much once he sees her all the time and lives with her flaws. But as usual with this manga, they handle these problems like adults and talk about them. That is the best thing about this manga, the fact that Asako and Natori act like adults and communicate with each other. I look forward to the next volume.

I give this manga a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

The cover is an illustration of Utena and Touga. There is no foul language, no sex, and mild violence in this book. The intended reader is someone who likes classic shoujo manga, deeply philosophical stories, and great art. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Utena gains entry to the Ohtori Academy's inner circle -- the sword-fighting student council. Destiny seems to have brought her together with council leader Touga, but is she merely a pawn in his mysterious scheme?

Review- Utena learns more about the world she has chosen to be part of but there is still so much that she doesn’t understand and no one is trying to explain it to her. In this volume it is more about Utena and her new relationships with the other Rose knights. They all have received letters that led them, like Utena, to the World’s End and to duel there. But the other duelists soon see that Utena is special because a glowing man comes from the castle to help her fight and win. But the volume ends with Touga pretending to be Utena’s prince and I am curious about how she is going to handle this and what she is going to do to him when it is revealed.

I give this manga a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Today’s post is on Remina by Junji Ito. It is 250 pages long and is published by Viz Media. The cover is an illustration of the planet Remina and frightened people. There is mild foul language, no sex, and violence in this book. The intended reader is someone who likes horror and cosmic horror stories. The story follows different characters closely. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- I MET REMINA'S EYE.

An unknown planet emerges from inside a wormhole, and its discoverer, Dr. Oguro, christens the celestial body "Remina" after his own daughter. His finding is met with great fanfare, and Remina herself rises to fame. However, the planet picks up speed as it moves along in its curious orbit, eliminating planets and stars one after another until finally Earth itself faces extinction… Is the girl Remina the true cause of the catastrophe? A masterwork of horror from Junji Ito, unfolding on a universal scale.

THE PLANET NOTICED OUR EXISTENCE...

Review- Another masterpiece by Ito. A new planet is discovered at the end of the universe and is named after the finder's daughter, Remina. But the planet is seen to be moving across the universe and looks like it is coming for earth. People decide that the planet is being summoned by Remina and she wants to kill all life. Things get dark from there. Ito really gets into cosmic horror in this manga with an unstoppable hungry planet eating its way across the universe and coming for earth. Lots of action in this manga with not much in way of characters or character development. This one is all about the unstoppable horror coming for everyone. I enjoyed this manga and Ito is a master.

I give this manga a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Today’s post is on Spy x Family, Vol. 6 by Tatsuya Endo. It is 250 pages long and is published by Viz Media. The cover is an illustration of Nightfall who works with Twilight. As it is the sixth in the series, you need to have read the first five volumes to understand the story. There is no foul language, no sex, and comedic violence in this book. The intended reader is someone who likes humorous spy stories. The story follows the main character, Twilight. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Twilight and Nightfall enter an underground tennis tournament, hoping for an opportunity to obtain an intelligence document that threatens to bring the world to the brink of war! But will their mission be compromised by Nightfall’s secret crush on Twilight?!

Review- This volume is really mostly about the underground tennis games and it is over the top. With tricks and cheats from the other players, Twilight and Nightfall are having a hard time of it but it was a fun volume. Nightfall is not handling Twilight having a family ‘life’ without her in it very well and in fact almost gets herself injured from playing against Yor later in the volume. Twilight is clueless to her feelings for him, his beginning feelings for Yor, and Yor has no idea what she feels about any of this. Anya gets into some trouble with Damian but he is starting to see her in a new light. A very fun series that has me looking forward to the next volume eagerly.

I give this manga a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Today’s post is on Skip Beat!, Vol. 25 by Yoshiki Nakamura. It is 184 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover is an illustration of Kyoko all dressed up. As it is the twenty-fifth in the series, you need to have read the first twenty-four volumes to understand the story. There is no foul language, no sex, and comedic violence in this book. The intended reader is someone who likes humorous manga with a great main character. The story follows the main character, Kyoko. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Kyoko's Valentine's battle with Reino has finally gained her Sho's attention—but now it's the last thing she wants! Sho is determined to make her obsessed with him, and shows up on set with an over-the-top gift to taunt her. But when Kyoko explains her true relationship with Reino, Sho makes an inexcusable move. Has he undone her years of healing in one fell swoop?!

Review- Sho is a total jerk in this volume and most of the volume is dealing with that. He forces Kyoko to kiss him in front of Ren and all her co-workers. Just when I thought I couldn’t dislike him more, he does that. He cannot stand for Kyoko to be thinking of anyone else and he is being a hardcore jerk, instead of leaving her alone. Ren is affected too and makes a small move towards Kyoko by kissing her check in thanks for a gift. That helps her forget about Sho, because who could think about him when Ren Tsuruga is there. Kyoko handles it well considering her personality but I am curious about what she is going to be working on next now that Dark Moon is done.

I give this manga a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Today’s post is on Revolutionary Girl Utena, Vol. 3: To Sprout by Chiho Saitō, Be-Pas . It is 200 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover is an illustration of Utena and Touga as they duel. As it is the third in the series, you need to have read the first two volumes to understand the story. There is no foul language, no sex, and comedic violence in this book. The intended reader is someone who likes intense plots with lots of twists. The story follows the main character, Utena. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Utena finds herself closer to the prince she so desperately seeks. Meanwhile, she must try to repel Touga's romantic advances and figure out what role the new boy, Akio, will play in her life.

Review- Utena loses her first fight in this volume to Touga, who gets in her head to win. He wants the power of World’s End but he also has become inflated with Utena. So Utena has a small crisis of self in the middle of the volume but she remembers who she is and what she wants from life and herself. We learn more about Anthy and what she is and the fact that she has a brother named Aiko. He wants World’s End's power too but the siblings are far more than what they appear. I think that Aiko is going to be the real villain of the series but I don’t know. As this is a short series, only three volumes are left.

I give this manga a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Today’s post is on A Man and His Cat, Vol. 4 by Umi Sakurai. It is 164 pages long and is published by Square Enix Manga. The cover is an illustration of Utena and Touga as they duel. As it is the fourth in the series, you need to have read the first three volumes to understand the story. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this book. The intended reader is someone who likes sweet stories about found family and pets. The story follows the main characters, Fukumaru and Kanda. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Fukumaru might find it hard to imagine, but not everyone is Mr. Kanda's biggest fan! Kanade Hibino, a rival concert pianist, detests Mr. Kanda and his musical genius. But when Kanade has a furry new houseguest forced upon him, he heads to the pet store for supplies and guidance...only to run into none other than his (assumed) nemesis! Will the cats in their lives bring the two men closer together and mend old wounds?

Review- The volume picks up where the last one left off with Kanda helping a friend get his new cat adjusted to a new home. We see more of the people in Kanda’s life in this volume and how much he is loved by those around him. Fukumaru also reunites with his older sister and they bond and play together. Lots of time in vignettes of cat life in this volume too with Fukumaru stealing Kanda’s dinner and trying to sleep with a cat. This series has so much heart and it really gets the joys of getting to share your life with a pet.

I give this manga a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Lynn (larainey) | 149 comments Today’s post is on The Water Dragon's Bride, Vol. 9 by Rei Toma. It is 192 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover is an illustration of Subaru. As it is the ninth in the series, you need to have read the first eight volumes to understand the story. There is no foul language, no sex, and mild violence in this book. The intended reader is someone who likes classic Japanese mythology stories. The story is told from third person close of the main characters. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Kurose and the god of darkness conspire to take control of the emperor of Naga’s throne, and they have no qualms about using Asahi to do it! Worried for Asahi’s safety, the water dragon god decides it’s best to return her to her former world, but does Asahi want to go?

Review- The god of darkness really brings his villain a game in this volume with manipulative not only Asahi and her friends by the human he stole but what he is end game? The water dragon god is trying to protect Asahi, who doesn’t want to leave her friend in danger. So now they are on the run from another puppet of the god of darkness and that pushes Asahi and the water dragon god into a corner. With only two volumes left I have no idea how this is going to end or how it can really end well.

I give this manga a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
