The second nonfiction book I chose was Finding Winnie. This book is a true story about a Canadian veterinarian who saves a bear cub from a train station and names her Winnie. Colebourn, the soldier/veterinarian, takes Winnie with him overseas when it’s time to ship out. They become very connected and Colebourn introduces Winnie to his fellow soldiers. Eventually, Colebourn has to give Winnie up and he decides to give her to the London Zoo. This nonfiction book is also written in chronological order and uses very detailed visuals. This nonfiction story is also a biography because it’s a true story about a person's life, written by someone else.
I enjoyed this book because it was so wholesome and very heartwarming. My first puppy that I ever got was a rescue that my dad brought home and I loved her so much. It was extremely hard when we had to put her down due to her old age and her discomfort. I can relate to this story because Colebourn has to say goodbye to the bear cub that he made such a strong bond with. I would recommend this story to young readers because it is very inspiring since it’s based off a true story.
