A funky little bakery with a very cute pastel-pink vibe.

Jasper munched on a donut, a mustache of pink frosting on their lip. This was the first one he'd had. They'd only just gotten here, after all. A pair of fingerless gloves sat on the table beside him - he'd taken them off to eat. "How many of these do you think I could fit in my mouth at once?" They mused, glanced over at their friend one the other side of the table. "Three, maybe four?" Whatever answer Scheme gave, it seemed like Jasper would probably try it.

(sorry I had Latin)

Scheme shrugged, allowing the shoulder of fer corset top to fall off fer shoulder with an only slightly unnecessary flourish to the movement. "Five," fey said, lips quirking in a wicked smirk. The effect was somewhat ruined by the bit of cream cheese and jam lingering on silver gloss, swiped over black lipstick. As long as Jasper didn't choke, fey figured this would be very fun to watch. It would still be interesting if they did choke, fey reasoned. Fey plucked a blueberry off the top of fer blueberry cheesecake, tossing it in the air and catching it in fer mouth.

"Twenty bucks says I can do six," Jasper responded immediately, grinning back at fer. There was no way in hell they'd actually be able to, but they were definitely going to try. He pulled another donut out of the box and hesitated for a second, before stuffing the whole thing in his mouth. Well, shit. He'd be lucky if he could get three. He pushed a second donut into his mouth, already laughing through the dough.

"Looks like you owe me," Scheme drawled, chucking a blueberry at him. "That's not even four. Disappointing." Fey raised a brow at him, teasing in a way, but clearly - exaggeratedly - expecting more. Fey leaned over and snatched a donut from Jasper's plate, taking a big bite. "I'm taking this so you don't choke," fey said through fer mouthful, pearl-lined eyes wide in false innocence. Secretly, fey was planning to put it back - Jasper had a sweet tooth that far exceeded fer own.

(shit i thought i responded sorry)

Jasper cackled, though it was super muffled by the donuts. He tried to swallow, but it took him a while. They sighed dramatically and leaned back. "Damn. Those are bigger than I thought." As soon as the words came out of his mouth, he started laughing again. "Don't say it."

(well now it's my turn sorry)

Scheme burst into laughter. "That's what she said!" fey whooped, tossing the doughnut fey'd stolen back at Jasper. "Or he," fey added, throwing him a smirk. "Besides, it's your fault for trying." Fey was also to blame for making him do more, but fey could hardly resist that opportunity, could fey? It really was Jasper's fault for letting fer.

Jasper gave an exaggerated gasp, moving a hand to his forehead in mock offense. "Scheme! How inappropriate!" They joked. He leaned back and put his feet up on the table. "I think we got a couple new guys today. Two or three, all pretty normal. It's been forever since we've had someone interesting show up," They complained.

Scheme rolled fer eyes, flourishing the long slitted skirt fey wore as fey uncrossed fer legs. "Please. After me, how could you find anyone interesting?" Though fey did agree with Jasper - for somewhat different reasons. Fey wanted more gossip, more drama. Possibly more of an audience. Some new students would provide enough of that. And fey couldn't help but wonder how fun things would be once the new students got to know about the Murder of Crows.

(that's if Ayla ever gets her member done obviously)

Jasper cackled at that. "True, but I was at least hoping for someone different. But nah, it's all just the same." They waved a hand vaguely. "Oh no, I found out I have superpowers and a tragic backstory and now I'm going to save the world because I have nothing better to do!" He mimed, looking out the window. "Honestly. Can't imagine just getting a letter and instantly believing it." Their eyes flicked back to fer. "No offense."

(BAHAHAAA THE SHADE)

"I can't imagine being the special dumbass who nearly got himself killed," Scheme retorted, chucking another blueberry at him. "I'm so special and cool because I accidentally bumped into someone, praise my worthiness," fey preened, using the same dramatic hand gestures that Jasper did. "And my backstory isn't that tragic." Fey snorted, swiping a napkin to blot at the crumbs on fer lipstick. "Imagine wanting to save the world, though. Honestly, just get the news out there that we exist, crush the Force, and be done with it." Fey knew it wasn't nearly that simple, but it was true. Fey just wanted a world where everyone like them didn't have to deal with all the dramatics of hiding.

"At least I've been in a real fight! And I'm just saying," Jasper protested, "You got a letter, and it told you to go do a thing to go to some weird super academy, and you went 'Oh, I'm sure it's not a scam or someone trying to kidnap or violently murder me!'" They drummed their fingers on the table as they spoke, sitting up straighter at fer words. "Right? We have everything we'd need to beat them. Technology. Resources. Numbers. But no! I think Angeles is just scared to start a fight."

"Jasper, that hardly counted as a fight," Scheme waved a hand at him, a gesture that was both regally dismissive and good-naturedly exasperated. "I already knew I had some kind of ability or human advancement or whatever the fuck you want to call it. Besides, I could use it to beat up whatever rando would've sent that dramatic a letter." Fey flexed fer arm comically, showing off the muscles there.
"And you've only met one of the Force's assassins, and considering how that went, you're not really in a place to talk about starting fights," fey added pointedly, but grinned at fer friend. Once they were trained enough to go on missions - any day now - they'd be able to take on the Force themselves.

(:p hi sorry)

"Well-" Scheme had him there. Jasper blanked for a split second, trying to come up with a good response. "It wasn't nothing. I got the scar to prove it!" They couldn't think of anything else to say. "I mean, who wrote those letters anyway? Are you alone now bullshit or whatever. Like we're in a fuckin' spy movie." He snickered at fer flexing - fey could probably kill them if fey wanted to and they knew it, but it was still funny.
"I wasn't prepared then. I am now." He cracked his knuckles, taking his feet off the table. "All the stronger ones are ready. The ones who aren't..." They shrugged. "Who says we need 'em?" He was counting the days until they could go on missions and actually do something.

"I know about your scar, Jasper, I've seen it more times than I care to," Scheme rolled fer eyes. Fey leaned back in fer chair, head lolling back as fey stretched fer neck. Fer chalcedony earrings gleamed, dangling and swaying with the movement. "Honestly, you'd expect them to give us some kind of mission. Sure, Angeles hasn't gotten it in her head to attack, but some kind of espionage or confrontation. You literally ran into an assassin on the street, who knows how easy it might be to do it again." Fey liked the idea of battling with the Force - fey'd trained for years, sparred with almost every one of fer classmates. But fey didn't quite want to admit that the idea of a real, life-and-death fight...didn't seem real. Then again, fey'd developed the ability to perform gymnastics at an Olympic level before fey'd turned ten.

Jasper sighed, swirling his straw around in his soda and listening to the ice clinking against the glass. "Exactly! We've been training for long enough. The more we wait, the stronger they get. We need to strike first." He pursed his lips. "Or at least get off this damn island for a bit and do something."

message 17: by Era ➴, and their one brain cell (new)

Era ➴ (readeroflibraries) | 92 comments Mod

"We could ask for a mission," Scheme mused. "We've trained more than enough." Fey wondered what it would be like to step off the island - fey'd never left since coming. Fer family...fey did miss fer parents, though fey'd never had much of a close relationship. Fey wanted to know what things were like now. The Academy should have a course on what's going on everywhere else. Imagine trying to go on a mission and becoming completely disoriented. "Besides, we haven't heard nearly enough about the Force's latest activity."

"Yeah... Or what if they've already got people out doing stuff? And they just didn't tell anyone? I wouldn't put it past them. It's not like they tell us much of anything." They kept swirling the ice, getting fast and faster until it was a blur. "Some people here would clearly be better spies than heroes. Like us. Yet we're all getting the same training." Jasper didn't really know where he was going with that last part, but it felt like something that needed to be said.

"That's the problem," Scheme pointed at Jasper with fer fork. "They're training us all for the same thing, and it doesn't matter what our interests or strengths are. You can't expect us all to be save-the-world public-icon superheroes. Especially when we barely know what's going on." Fey picked up a piece of baklava. "We could bring that up to the teachers. We're important high-level students, they'd have to take us somewhat seriously." There was no way the administration didn't know about the Murder of Crows, though teachers always pretended they didn't.
