For 2022, we are going to go with an overarching theme for our side reads! The group will be reading 12 books written and published by American authors between 1920 and 1960.
We will be choosing books for 11 of the 12 months. I really want to read a book by a Black author in February, since it is Black History Month here in the U.S.
Not terribly surprisingly (although sadly) there weren't very many Black authors publishing mystery/crime fiction during that time period, so I am using my moderator privilege to select our February book:
A Rage in Harlem by Chester Himes, which was published in 1957. If any of the members have a different book by a different American Black author that would fit our time parameters, we can discuss this further, although I'm really excited to read A Rage in Harlem.
January: February: A Rage in Harlem by Chester Himes March: April: May: June: July: August: September: October: November: December:
This theme was semi-inspired by the following blog post from The Passing Tramp, which was linked by Mike Finn in a different thread:

If you haven't read it, it's worth looking at.
I'm going to be setting up the January nominations thread in a moment!
