It is time to start planning for next year!

This game runs from January 1- December 31, 2022.

The object is to make a list of 10 books that have been on your TBR list the longest and get them finally read.

You are allowed to DNF any book that you list after giving it a try.

This game is part 1 of 3. The other parts will be announced when people start finishing their LOST list as they are based on the date LOST was finished. However, you are not required to participate in parts 2 & 3, which are just incentives for not letting the LOST books linger.

Good reading, everyone.

Progress: 28/28 (100%)
COMPLETED 10/2/22

I'm going to create some of my own rules here, due to the books that are in these slots on my list. I'm going to bypass anything that is part of a series in which I have not read the previous books. I will replace a book in the series with the initial or earlier book in that series that I have yet to read. In addition, I will only place one book in a series on this list. Any books that I am unable to locate will be removed and replaced with the next book on the list. Finally, I would like to challenge myself to a "bonus round" by selecting the first 3 audiobooks from each year on my TBR.

✦1. The Ivory and the Horn - Charles de Lint (replaces The Onion Girl)
✦2. Little Men - Louisa May Alcott
✦3. Wicked - Gregory Maguire
✦4. Finding Colin Firth - Mia March
✦5. Glaciers - Alexis M. Smith
✦6. Long Gone - Alafair Burke
✦7. The Hour I First Believed - Wally Lamb
✦8. Methland - Nick Reding
✦9. Chakras for Beginners - David Pond The Book of Chakra Healing
✦10. The English Patient - Michael Ondaatje

Bonus Picks:
2016
Circling the Sun
Shutter Island
The Water is Wide

2017
This is How it Always is
History of Wolves
The Last One

2018

Dee (austhokie) | 2695 comments me!!

i'm basing my picks of my Amazon 2011 purchases shelf

1 Power Play - purchased Nov 19, 2011 - finished - 6/18/22 - semi-decent m/m NA/sports romance - felt too long in places but that is just the authors style - i don't read much of this genre anymore so don't think i'll be reading more in the future
2 An Unlikely Pair: The High School Years - purchased Jun 29. 2011 - finished - 6/11/22 - so apparently this was a short freebie and not the full length book i thought - so hardly took any time to read it, pretty typically NA, not likely goign to read more
3 Pictures of You - purchased Dec 28. 2011 - Finished - 6/5/22 - decent women's fiction, lite romance, solid ending that wrapped everything up, may consider reading more by author in the future
4 Blush - purchased Mar 11, 2011 - Finished - 6/25/22 - writing just felt blah - i was reading but not connecting with the characters - i've read a lot of Carew over the years but i don't think she works for me anymore
5 Dragon Warrior - purchased Jan 25, 2011
6 Dodge the Bullet - purchased Oct 28. 2011
7 Pearl of China - purchased Nov 3, 2011
8 Play Dead - purchased Nov 3, 2011
9 The Bond That Ties Us - purchased Dec 19. 2011 - finished - 3/27/22 - pretty decent erotic romance - I'm a total sucker for alien ones, so I liked this, but def felt a bit dated in the writing style
10 Never a Bride - purchased Jul 5, 2011 - Finished - 1/28/22 - a decent historical romance - intrigued enough to want to read more by this author

Beth | 582 comments Of the over 60 books added to my TBR in April and May 2017(probably around the time I joined Goodreads), I found 10 on my shelves. I probably have more from that list on my shelves but I took the first 10 I could find. They are:

1. John Adams - done
2. Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln - done
3. The Story of My Life - done
4. Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination that Changed America Forever - done
5. The Shoes of the Fisherman - done
6. Uncle Tom's Cabin - done
7. Loose Change: Three Women of the Sixties - done
8. A Swiftly Tilting Planet - done
9.The Girls of Atomic City: The Untold Story of the Women Who Helped Win World War II - done
10. The Fellowship of the Ring - done

I can see now why most of these have been on my TBR list to long.....they have many pages!! :)
I'll do what I can!
I just replaced #5 and #7....turns out I read them already. I will find others to add. I guess I was just looking at how long they had been on my book list. :( I see now that different editions were shelved....before I really knew how to maneuver the Goodreads system.

LOL true Bea, but I never get to part #2 because I never read all ten (at least not yet). Last year's 8, I think is as close as I have ever gotten to completing this challenge.

All twenty of my books I listed above are the oldest on my shelves. I am using this challenge to both read the books I have been meaning to read for a long time and to weed out the books from my list that have been sitting on my list for so long because I really don't want too read them (and finally admit I'm not going to and take them off my list).

LOL I did switch my covers back to links because I realized I was taking up way too much space with twenty book covers. Sorry about that!

Shannon (merrychristman) | 26 comments The oldest books/authors on my TBR list are ones recommended by my writing professor, Bob Slosser, in Fall 1997. I still have 13 authors on that list that I haven't read, and 10 of them are:

✔️Jamie Buckingham - Read Tramp for the Lord, which he cowrote/ghostwrote
✔️Catherine Marshall - Read Beyond Our Selves
✔️Bodie Thoene, When Jesus Wept (I'd read another book by Bodie Thoene, but I had written down that my professor had specifically recommended The Jerusalem Chronicles, of which When Jesus Wept is the first. I'm not sure how that happened, as this book was published long after it was originally added to my list!)
✔️ Breathing Lessons
✔️ Gatherings
Truman
✔️Joan Didion -- read Let Me Tell You What I Mean, 5/6/22
✔️Scott Turow -- read Presumed Innocent 3/22/22
The Habit of Being: Letters of Flannery O'Connor Did not finish - read the first 51 pages (of 600+) but decided I didn't know enough about Flannery O'Connor to appreciate her letters. Maybe I'll try it again after I read more of her work.
✔️Saul Bellow -- read Seize the Day 7/9/22

And a question from a newbie: How do you add checkmarks / checkboxes to your posts when you complete a book?
