Our winner for December's 2000-2010 Manga is Death Note written by Ohba Tsugumi and drawn by Obata Takeshi. Death Note ran in Shonen Jump from 2003 until 2006 and spanned 12 volumes. An anime based on the the manga ran for 37 episodes and covered the entire manga with slight differences. There have also been a couple of Summary Anime Films and a Live Action American Film. Also a light novel series.

The Book Dragon (restel) | 200 comments I found a hardback copy in my school's library and read it about 10 times over the course of a weekend. One trip to Books-A-Million later and my manga collection began.

It’s a series I’ve meant to get into in one of its many forms but never did. I watched a couple episodes of the anime and just recently watched the Netflix Film which I assumed would be awful but I really enjoyed it.

I’ll for sure at least read volume 1 and go from there.

Honestly, the only thing I know about this is the potato chip scene from the anime haha!

Meghan Mayy | 33 comments I enjoyed the anime when I watched it, but it has been a while. I like the art style of the manga so I added it to my list to read in the future XD I think they have an additional chapter that came out more recently, with a different main character that wields the Death Note. That looks interesting!

For anyone interested Obata’s other work Platinum End which finished its run earlier this year and is now getting an anime adaptation.

The Book Dragon (restel) | 200 comments Ohba and Obata also did the Bakuman. series.

Grace | 143 comments I've read the first few volumes at least. I have a big bindup of all the books so I actually don't know how far I am through the series. but I really really like it. Very interesting and smart story. I also watched the Netflix movie earlier this year after putting it off for a long time and I really enjoyed that too. more than I thought I would. A lot of people seem to not like it. I've also heard the series goes down hill a bit in the later volumes so I am kinda nervous to continue but hopefully I will really like it

I just read the first volume and its really interesting! Light is kinda charismatic and yet... I'm so interested to see where it goes from here! This is on the Shonen Jump app, as is the extra chapter Meghan Mayy mentioned!

Roger | 137 comments I have the All-in-One physical copy. I'm only 22 chapters through and I keep reading all of the new recommendations I'm getting.
