I've finished The Story of the Lost Child by Elena Ferrante of Italy, set mostly in Naples.
That's one! This is probably the easiest of the tasks. Sounds like Italy is the most-popular setting so far.

Of Human Bondage has a large portion set in France. I had planned to use The Daughter set in Greece, but it proved more difficult to obtain a copy than I had expected.
I read Memoirs of Hadrian by Marguerite Yourcenar which is set in basically every country with a coast on the Mediterranean. I first wanted to use it for task Nr 8 as it was written in French but I found it so much more fitting for this task.
I read The Plague by Albert Camus which is set in Oran, Algeria. It was a dense read, but a genius novel. I gave it 5 stars.
Almost finished Zorba the Greek, a re-read. I first read it as a teen and didn't fully appreciate the misogyny it contains. Rereading it now, I also notice how homo erotic it is. Who flings himself down on a bed naked in the middle of winter in a hut on beach to read a letter from a beloved 'friend'?
Finished reading Zorba the Greek. I don't think the author had much experience with women and I suspect he was a homosexual in denial. Some parts are disturbing (violence against women). I did enjoy the Cretan nature scenes and the internal dialogues about God and religion, This novel is one where it is good writing and enjoyable characters, but the tone it takes on some issues are questionable.
I just re-read The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, set in Marseilles, France (Côte d’Azur), Italy, Malta, Spain, Monte Cristo*, Greece, Elba, etc.
