Hi everyone! My name's Colette and I'm part of the Manhattan Beach section of #SWVBC. I love reading anything and everything YA, so feel free to recommend any good YA books! I am planning on majoring in English this fall, and hope to be a YA novel editor. When I'm not reading or doing endless amounts of homework, I enjoy going to the beach, volunteering, and hanging out with friends.

Debbie | 2 comments Hi Colette,
I'm Debbie Bobilin and I am the Media Specialist at James Caldwell High School in West Caldwell NJ. We are a smallish school with about 800 students. Luckily I have some great students who love reading and being part of this great group!! I feel I have the greatest job being surrounded by books, media and teenagers:-) I love being outside and one of my favorite things to do is take my dog for long walks while I listen to a book!!

Thanks so much for taking on enlivening this group for us, Colette! I'm Jane Lofton, the teacher librarian at Mira Costa HS in Manhattan Beach. We are blessed with being in a gorgeous location near the beach (of course) with wonderfully mild climate. We have about 2,400 students in our school. I love my job, sharing great books, and research, information literacy, digital citizenship, and technology skills with my community. I also love our monthly #SWVBC hangouts!

Yuka | 1 comments Ok. Self introductions... I'm Yuka Noda from the Mira Costa High library club. I don't really know what else to say? Um... I really enjoy adventure/fantasy books with an alternate world with wizards and whatnots? I seem to always end my sentences with a question mark? Oh. I'm currently reading Thirteen Reasons Why for the next virtual book club meeting.

Hi Debbie,

Thanks for posting an introduction. It's great your school has so many avid readers! I also love listening to audiobooks (especially during long car drives). What type of dog do you have?

Welcome to the group Katherine! I am a senior, too...and currently waiting for college decisions...stressful!!! How are you liking The Perks of being a Wallflower? Did you see the movie?

Nicole Foster | 4 comments Hello! My name is Nicole Foster from Mira Costa High School. I read mysteries mostly. I really like historical fiction, and historical non-fiction of course. I also like reading coming of age type novels. I am currently reading a book called Easy Riders, Raging Bulls which is about the era of "new wave" Hollywood from 1967 to 1977.

Katherine | 2 comments Collete, I really like The Perks of being a Wallflower so far. No, I haven't seen the movie yet. I told myself I had to the read it first. I plan on seeing it after I finish though!

Katherine, I do the same thing. I can never see the movie until I finish the book :)

Hi Michelle! I also recently read Fahrenheit 451 and loved it! What did you think of it?

Matthew Williams (miwswimmer) | 5 comments I'm Matthew Williams, Junior at LaSalle High School in Oregon, Student Book Club Moderator, book lover, etc. (I figure the rest of you can decide what is included in etc. on your own) I am currently reading the final book of the Heroes of Olympus series, and looking forward to starting Game of Thrones, the Infernal Devices, unbroken, 1984, and all the other unread books I have sitting on my bookshelf (about 50). My genres are fantasy, sci-fi, historical fiction, dystopia, and realistic fiction (anything else I read has second priority).

Yes, that is another one of my favorite series.

Matthew Williams (miwswimmer) | 5 comments Colette wrote: "Me too! Did you see the movie?"
(Inferred spoiler, kind of)
Yes, but I personally thought that the book was better. Yet what can I say? I am biased towards books and I read the book first, so how it compares to the book is a big factor of how much I like the movie.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a great book, and the movie really does it justice. Perhaps that is a side effect of having the author being the director as well.

I am the same way with always liking the book more than the movie. I am excited to see the Mortal Instruments TV show coming to ABC Family, but I'm sure it won't be as good as the books.
