The show is based off the character of Rainbow Johnson's childhood life living with her family in California after being a part of a commune community. Rainbow is of Caucasian and African American descent. She lives with her parents and two siblings Johan and Santa Monica. Other characters include their Aunt Denise and grandfather Harrison Jackson.

The show has many episodes that deal with regular growing up stuff but also talks about race, gender and politics. Rainbow's character is witty, smart and curious. I loved how her character had many questions about how the world works and how she fits into it being mixed. I can relate to her because my mom is African American and my dad is Caucasian. This is a great show and would give it a five out of five rating.
