Wingardium LeviOsa
We should all remember Wingardium Leviosa from Hermione's reluctance.
Wingardium Leviosa casts a charm on whatever you are casting this spell on, causing it to levitate. Students often learn this in Charms Class in Year 1.

Lumos
This spell is another charm. It is used to produce a light source from the tip of your wand. It also fends off Devil's Snare.

Nox
Nox is the spell that stops Lumos. The two Spells together are like a light switch. Lumos is on, Nox is off.

Expelliarmus
Harry Potter's signature spell, Expelliarmus, is a defensive spell. It knocks the wand out of someone's hand quite easily, but sometimes it may also knock the person you are disarming backwards as well at quite a distance.

Aguamenti
Produces a clean, drinkable jet of water from the wand tip. It can be used to extinguish fires, and so on and so forth.

Accio
Accio is a summoning charm. However, it cannot summon buildings or animals. Nor can it summon people. It is most commonly used to summon brooms and supplies from a distance, as demonstrated by Potter in the Triwizard Tournament.

Engorgio
This spell is used to make things twice as large as their original state was. It is not often used.

Avis
This is a charm that conjures a flock of golden birds. The birds are shot from the caster’s wand, and it makes a loud blast like that of a gunfire shot. This charm is used when Hermione uses the birds to attack Ron when Lavender leaves.

Incendio
This charm creates fire. It conjures a jet of flames, warming the area around it. It is also used to set things alight.

Expecto Patronum
The spell Expecto Patronum is a Patronus Charm. Depending on who is casting it, the light that reveals itself takes a different shape per person. For example, Harry’s Patronus is a stag, and his mothers was a doe. There is a difference between them for every person. However, they are all based on animal figures. The Patronus is used to fend off Dementors, and leads the way in the dark. It also will send messages to other people; as shown when Kingsley Shacklebolt sends his Patronus, which is a Lynx, to warn the people who are at Bill and Fleur’s wedding about the Death Eaters.

Alohomora
Alohormora is commonly used to unlock locked doors and or spaces. This can be handy for if you lost a key, and you need to unlock something. However, sometimes this spell does not work if a counter-curse has been placed onto what you are attempting to unlock.

Muffliato
This spell is not well known, as it was invented by the Half-Blood Prince. However, this spell makes a buzzing sound vibration, which blocks anything from hearing what you are saying and or doing. This is helpful for if you need to spill secrets to someone else.

Silencio


Stupefy
Stupefy is often used to confuse an opponent temporarily during dueling. If you feel the need to knock someone out of their senses, this is a common spell used for duels of such matter.

Scourgify
Scourgify is a cleaning spell. It is quite helpful if you are hiding blood stains. It is usually used on dishes and such.
