Rosina | 1714 comments I finished The Darkest Night.
My thoughts - i really did enjoy it once i plodded through the first 60%. Now it could be because this was my filler book and would pick it up between other reads. I thought the first couple of chapters were draggy, but she is setting up the world and the people. Oh my lots of characters and afflicitions to keep track of. I do like the concept of the story. i also like a Beauty and a Beast retelling. A good start and hope the rest of the series is as good as the last 40% of the book or better.

I had only read one other of her books Alice in Zombieland and really enjoyed her YA writing.

Too funny. 60% plod through.

This used to be one of "my series" but it never got better past the first 4 or so and somewhere around #9 The Darkest Seduction & Beauty Awakened it lost the appeal. I still would occasionally go back and pick it up and got through to Darkest Promise which was Misery, or Cameo's book.

The books/series somewhere before that, 9, had become multiple story lines that are answered in different book, like BDB of Ward, which I just dislike the form. Leaving plot lines hanging multiple books... well I tend to stop reading. I did want to get William's book but still haven't talked myself into it, I would probably have to read the book in front of it to understand as that is Gillian's book.

I'll join in as a reread so I can see if I'm excited about reading the last two. Right now I'll commit to the first 2 as the second book is by far my favorite of the series. I love scarred heroes.

Steph (angel4492) | 32849 comments I've enjoyed the series, for the most part. I think it's b/c I'm so fascinated by the idea of the demon possession where they don't always have control. Some of the demons' compulsions crack me up, some are sad.

I'm behind several books and a handful of .5's, so I'll try to read those during the series read. (last read #13: The Darkest Promise)

message 5: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Brown | 20 comments I have re-read this series twice, love it. Was sad when we got to the end but all good things must come to an end. All of the Lords had great characters and story lines. A+ for me

message 6: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32849 comments Was William's book the finale? I'm behind (gotta read #14-15 + some shorts in between) and didn't know it'd ended. 😕

message 7: by Amyiw (new)

Amyiw | 237 comments I think William was the end of the main line, but she has put out The Rise of the Warlords spin off and put out a 1001 Dark Night novella of Brochan and Viola (keeper of narcissism) .

The Warlord (Rise of the Warlords, #1) by Gena Showalter The Immortal (Rise of the Warlords, #2) by Gena Showalter
The Darkest Destiny (Lords of the Underworld, #15.5) by Gena Showalter , so I suspect we can hope for novellas still too.

Steph (angel4492) | 32849 comments 👍🏼 Thanks. I've gotten the first one of those TBR. I'm starting LoTU #14 soon.

The new series Rise of the Warlords is awesome, really great read on the first 2.

message 12: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32849 comments That's great to hear, Angelique. I'll probably check it out after I finished LotU.

message 13: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Brown | 20 comments Dear SOS, is this were everyone is leaving comments on each book that is followed per month, or am I missing something. I got behind a bit on this series, but I have already read it once and wanted to follow along with the other readers, see what they have to say....just curious on where everyone is commenting.

message 14: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32849 comments Hi Angelique. This is the spot. Sadly, not a lot of us chattering about our re/read though. Sorry ‘bout that. But, if you wanna get us started, myself and others will likely join in the chat with ya.

I was current with the series 2009-18, then it got lost in the endless TBR shuffle. When it was chosen as our series read, I went back and read #14, so I'm almost at the end of the Lords.

message 15: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Brown | 20 comments Oh, well that is too bad, this is an AWESOME series....I have already read half the books twice, this months for sure....it was really good. I will re-read it and get back to you shortly, just put it on my current read :)

message 16: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32849 comments I really like it. I have several shorts to read + the finale (The Darkest King), then I guess I'll give Rise of the Warlords a go. Have you started that yet?

message 17: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Brown | 20 comments Oh, you will really like the Rise of the Warlords, it is really really good.

Im starting The Darkest Surrender now, excited to read this series again.

The Darkest King, that is the finale...you jumped ahead?

message 18: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Brown | 20 comments Im a quarter into this book and totally forgot how much I love these Lords....I think I will be going back to re-read the first 7 I missed in the SOS read-a-thon. Kaia is so bad ass, I just love her! Her, "Im bad ass" attitude, the stealing and her wit, she is too funny. Lets not forget about Strider is hot as hell, sexy and just hot as hell. ITs been awhile since I have laughed in a book....her one liners are too funny

Such a great read!

message 19: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Brown | 20 comments OMG....Kaia is so bad ass...

"I cant believe you just asked that, busted kneecaps are expected amoung my kind, Even encouraged" Who fights in Hooker Clothers...the Harpies do, LOL

Chpt 8 is awesome...l.you ask and Strider flipped out....what did she pull out of her panties before the fight started....LOL

message 20: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Brown | 20 comments "Use your hands, because knifing them seems a little harsh" STrider.
"Say no more. I came prepared, Kaia says. She slid one of her elegent hands down her panties? Sweet Heaven (STrider) she did, right in the center where she was probably warm and wet ready for his mouth, his cock. " I have something you might like"
Love these Harpies, so BAD ASS! Yu have got to read this chapter, its one of the best...these 2 are so good together and so hot. Chapter 8, such a good chapter....so much fun when he gets blind side becasue she had back up in the trees when mother dearest showed up....This is why I love this series. Sexy, exciting and so hot....and down right great hilarious writing!

message 21: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Brown | 20 comments Pg 295/Chpt 22....holy cow Strider is so hot.
He is going to give her 5 orgasms to beat Paris's 4. OMG this section of this chapter is mind blowing, 5 orgasms for Kaia before he will cum. So much detail, I got really turned on myself....Love this book! Love this series!

GTK. I'm sure I'll get to it eventually.

I didn't jump ahead. I just picked up where I'd left off before the series read started. I'm not a big re-reader. Too much new & shiny drawing my attention.

Glad you're enjoying yours though. It is a fun series!

message 23: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Brown | 20 comments Totally get the new and shiney reads, I have even found some really old reads that I didnt know about. Breed Series and the Dark Protector series (really love this one). So Im switching off. I read this series years ago when it first came out, so the re-read is actually entertaining...lot of stuff I forgot about. Lately, there hasnt been very many good ones out there, which is why I looked into older ideas. But Im really happy with this re-read, just wish more ppl were involved to chat with...this is the only book group Im in :(

Just an FYI, I only see your reminders on this SOS book group once a month, too let us know what the next book will be in series May I suggest to maybe sent out 1 or 2 more during the month...It might get more ppl involved. I know I get them 2 weeks before the months book starts and a lot of the time Im reading another book and forget. I have been wanting to get involved with this series book club but kept forgeting. Just a thought.

message 24: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32849 comments I really like Dark Protectors and Realm Enforcers. They got me hooked on Zanetti. We have a lot of Breed fans @ SOS. I'm way behind on that one.

Yeah, thanks for the feedback. I got a lot of bad feedback early on with my creation of the group, so I stopped sending out any broadcast messages unrelated to our team challenges. Maybe set a reminder? I don't have a lot of free time right now - RL is overwhelming - so I won't be able to increase any anything group-related.

message 25: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Brown | 20 comments No worries and really sad to hear about the feedback you got on this, I thought it was a great idea. I know how RL can get to you, I dont have a lot of free time on my hands either but Im and avid reader.

message 26: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32849 comments Thanks. It was. Same, escaping in books is my saving grace these days.

Angelique Brown | 20 comments Excited, today starts book #9, Paris's story....cant wait and hope other join in :)

message 28: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32849 comments Paris' was one of my favorites in the series. Enjoy your re-read!

message 29: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Brown | 20 comments I got into the first couple of chapters and was alittle lost, have to go back and read 3,4,5 :( So I can refresh my memory...there is a lot I dont remember but Im quick on the re-read :)

message 30: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Brown | 20 comments Just finish Reyes book....Danika has brought so much to this storyline....now running through Sabins and oh boy....the first Harpy in the series and its alreay funny, intense and exciting..."little Red" is about to have her "Wings" blown Book 4 has now commenced and so excited to get through this and the next so I can get back on track with Paris's book.

Anyone else out there venturing into this amazing word?

message 31: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32849 comments Sorry it doesn't look like anyone's joining in on her read, but thanks for sharing your thoughts :)

message 32: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Brown | 20 comments Its ok, I'll keep sharing, you never know who might chime in. I am in the process of finishing Sabins, right now. This is one of my favs because it introduces the Harpy's.

Paris book is a big one and when I started it I was a little lost, so I figured I would go back and read the others first. After Sabin, is Aeron, and then Stridder, which I recently finish since it was last months book of the month.

Steph (angel4492) | 32849 comments 👍🏼😊

message 34: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Brown | 20 comments Just finisht Book #4 in the series, Lord of Doubt - Sabin & Gwen.

These 2 had such great chemistry right from the git. I absolutly loved the sex scene when Gwen went all Harpy out during their practice killing lessons. That was panty melting worthy. I also thought the storyline was great, what a shock about Lord Galen & Gwen, it will be interesting to see where this goes in future books. I also thought the twist with the kids was good and it will be interesting to see where that goes, looks like Anya has taken a liking to "Ghost Boy". Another aspect is I like how periodically through the book it taps into other Lords, Aeron/Paris, Gideon, Torrin and starts to develope their characters and storylines.

Still trying to catch up with this months read but will get there by the end of the month, next up is Aerons story, this looks to be exciting as well....like to see where things go with the secret visitor and Legion.

Until next read :)

Angelique Brown | 20 comments Just finished Amun's book in the series. Such a great read. Loved Amun & Haidee's chemistry and the sexy scenes they have fooling around in Hell. I thought the whole circus idea and the different realm in Hell was a great touch and really like the Four Horsemen, they will be fun to watch in future. Oh and the whole ranch thing with Paris, Strider & William the Panty Melter. LOL, they were too funny. Kaia appears in this one too and she just had me cracking up with the dummy that looked like Strider and all the million holes in the croach from her throwing knifes at it...so funny. Next is Paris.

message 37: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32849 comments Paris' book was one of my faves :) Enjoy!

message 38: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Brown | 20 comments Just finish Paris's book....really enjoyed. Loved the part where the Lords and Ladies had to do the intervention....Kaia's cracked me up. I had forgotten about so much in this book, the war with Cronus, Angels, Hunters and everyone....this had a great storyline, really enjoyed it. I also liked how we got to see more of Zach the Angel "boy" LoL. The spin off series Angels after Dark was good too. and this book, give us the opening to that series. On to the next one, I believe its Kane

message 39: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32849 comments I really liked her Angels After Dark spin-off and wish it'd been longer.

message 40: by Angelique (new)

Angelique Brown | 20 comments Me too....it had so much going on and amazing storylines and the Angels man, just as hot as the Lords

message 41: by Amyiw (new)

Amyiw | 237 comments I saw that this had a comment from Oct when scrolling thru. I must have missed a notification or a dozen as I did start on this buddy read and reread the first couple at the time, 2019?

So The Darkest Torment was the last one that I believe I read of the series. It started loosing my past The Darkest Seduction & Wicked Nights, which were both 4 star and solid reads, then all of the reads since have been OK to good 2 to 3 stars, up to the ninth book above. I still have Puck (who is Puck, ugh) and then William's book. I really do want to get to William's book.

I loved the whole overarc of this series, the only issue is that it became too complicated in each book and less about the couple. Still it worked up to Paris' book for me. Hoping that Williams book does a good wrap up of the guys.

The next series, The Immortals is out and has a few books already. I think it is the horsemen that you were talk about.

message 42: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32849 comments Hey Amyiw. No worries 😊 I couldn't get back into it this year. I've still got a few .5 books and William's left TBR to wrap up the series.

(Jane Yellowrock is our series read for 2023)
