Hi, Erin! Glad to have you with us! Your goals are slightly mismatched. You need three books for each deduction, so you can either read 24 books for 8 deductions, or 30 books for 10 deductions. Which shall it be? 🔎🙂
Kylie wrote: "I'm in for 16 books and 5 deductions."Hello, Kylie! You won't need 16 books to make 5 deductions, so I entered your goals as 15 books and 5 deductions. If you want to increase your goal during the challenge, let me know in one of your update posts. 🔎🙂
AnnaG wrote: "Count me in please! 😉BOOKS: 0/23

Hi, AnnaG. You need three books per deduction, so these book and deduction goals don't quite match up. You'll need 30 books for 10 deductions, or you could make 7 deductions from 21 books (rather than 23); or you could increase your books by 1 and have enough for 24 books and 8 deductions. Which goal would you like?
I've never played Clue but this version sounds fun! Please add me for 9 books/ 3 deductions :D

Duration: January 1 - December 31, 2022
This challenge is inspired by the classic board game Clue/Cluedo. To set the scene, you're investigating a murder at Reading Challenge Manor and you will be looking for clues in the books you read. You may read fiction or nonfiction in any genre unless a prompt specifies otherwise. Prompts may be repeated, but each book can only count once.
Suspects
Read a book with any shade of the following colors on the cover.
Mr. Green - green
Colonel Mustard - yellow
Mrs. Peacock - blue
Professor Plum - purple
Miss Scarlet - red
Mrs. White - white
Weapons
Read a book with a cover image or title word related to a game weapon (not limited to examples below).
Candlestick or flames or fire
Dagger or knife or sword
Lead Pipe or musical instrument or writing instrument
Revolver or gun or pistol
Rope or string or ribbon
Wrench or spanner or any other tool
Rooms
Ballroom: Read a book that includes music or dancing.
Billiard Room: Read a book that features a hobby, craft, game or sport.
Cellar: Read a detective, mystery or true crime book.
Conservatory: Read a book in which a person saves or conserves someone or something.
Dining Room: Read a book with a food or drink on the cover.
Hall: Read a book that is the first in a series.
Kitchen: Read a cookbook or a book about a food & beverage professional.
Library: Read a book you have borrowed from a library or from someone else.
Lounge: Read a book in a favorite genre.
Secret Passages: Read a book with "secret" in the title.
Study: Read a book featuring a subject you're passionate about or would like to learn more about.
❗ Attention: If you participated in this challenge during 2021, please note that some of the room prompts have changed.
Every time you complete the following sentence - I deduce it was [suspect] in the [room] with the [weapon], we will update which tier of fictional detectives you fall into.
For example, I read We Are the Brennans which has a white cover, The Night She Disappeared which is a mystery, and A Court of Silver Flames which has "flames" in the title, so I can deduce that it was Mrs. White in the cellar with the candlestick.
1 deduction = Lord Peter Wimsey
2-3 deductions = Miss Jane Marple
4-5 deductions = Chief Inspector Armand Gamache
6-7 deductions = Veronica Mars
8-9 deductions = Inspector Thomas Lynley
10+ deductions = Maisie Dobbs
If one of your deductions is 100% correct, you will receive a medal of commendation🥇. We have randomly chosen whodunnit, but will not be revealing the correct answer until later on in the year.
When updating your progress, please note that I will not be checking original posts. Your comment should include the number of books completed and also details of any deductions made.
