Sandy | 1639 comments I am trying for Level #3: Doctor of History - 10 to 15 books in at least 10 categories. I anticipate having trouble finding books I want to read in some of the categories, particularly when I need to match a letter. And I can always move up a level later.

My January letter is "L". I confess to re-spinning as my first try gave me a "Q" and I spent a lot of time looking for a Q in any category. L is much better as I am reading the Flavia Albia series by Lindsey Davis, have the new book in the Latetia Rodd series, and our monthly author also writes as Gilian Linscott. Now to find categories for the books.

Thank you, Lauren, for all your work and good luck to all.

message 4: by Kerri (new)

Kerri | 148 comments I feel that "Q" is a difficult letter to work with at any time! I agree the fun of this challenge will be matching titles to categories and it seems you are off to a good start! Best of Luck to You!

This book is the third in the Laetitia (note the L) Rodd series.

This is a quiet pleasant series with likeable characters. The mystery is interesting, well plotted and unresolved until the final chapters. Clues are followed and suspects interviewed; rules of detection are respected. I did suspect one of the "big" reveals.

Excellent. The main character is interesting, and it is a time and location I know little about.

4th read

A. Level: 3- Doctor of History
B. January's letter: L
C. Category: 7. Historical Mysteries 2016
D. Book: The Graveyard of the Hesperides
E. Completed: Feb 13

This series satisfies my Falco itch quite well. Flavia is an interesting character and the extended family pops in regularly.

Sandy | 1639 comments New level to be attempted:
Level #4: History with Honors - 15-20 books in at least 15 categories

9th read

A. Level: 4- History with Honors
B. May's letter: V
C. Category: 21. Historical Mystery 2021
D. Book: The Dying Day
E. Completed: May 9

In this second book in the series, Persis is developing nicely, both as a detective and in controlling her temper.

Having competed 9 categories (of the 10 required for level 3) I have decided to aim for a History with Honors, 15 categories. The number of books shouldn't be a problem, only the categories. It helps that there are two additional categories now.
