I have so much fun 'spotifying' my reads. Sometimes, you find readers have set up playlist/s that you can just play while reading your particular book/s. Some of the times, it's really good and sometime, it's a fail although it also depends on your music taste. This is just for fun so let's share what you're reading on JRI! this year, the playlist you found/listened to, and how you like them.

Instruction:

1. Go to: https://open.spotify.com/

2. Click "Search" (left hand side) > a dialog box will appear to the right of "Spotify"

3. Type your book title into dialog box and Enter

4. IF there are playlist/s, they will list the results below dialog box

5. Click on a playlist to see songs & to play

For example,
Book: She Who Became the Sun (The Radiant Emperor #1)

Search Result:
https://open.spotify.com/search/She%2...

Share the playlist you listened to:
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7HD...

Note: I usually use the Spotify app on my phone but above instruction is based on the web player. Please let me know if it doesn't work for you. Unfortunately, you do have to sign up to listen so it's up to you. I only have the free account (with all the annoying ads) that works fine for this purpose, if you'd like to join in this game :)

I don't think listening to a playlist adds anything. I never listen to music while reading and I don't need music to get in the mood or a book.

Tien, when do you listen to the playlist that goes with a book?

I don't usually listen to music when I read but sometimes I do feel like music so that's when I usually look for something on Spotify :)

It's not about getting in the mood but just the additional ambience.

Its content is only instrumentals which is very very apt as this book is about language as it is slowly being decimated letter by letter.

Did you listen to the playlist at all, Marina? If so, what do you think? I see some Spanish (?) songs on the list... did you like them? Does the playlist suit the mood of the book, overall?

I liked Where is My Mind the best, sentimental reasons for this song.

Agree, Everyday was so beautiful. Really loved hearing these songs on piano :) may have to read the book!

Tien, I didn't listen to it yet, but I believe it should suit the mood of the book. There is a lot of music going on in the novel, as both protagonists are keen on hits from the 70's (that's when the novel takes place). Some of the songs and bands in the playlist are actually mentioned in the book. I believe the songs with Spanish titles are actually Mexican - apparently at the time there were many local cover bands that remade famous songs/albums from American or British bands. I never listen to music while I read, but I will get round to listening to this playlist as soon as I have time - it should be interesting.
