So it's almost Xmas and I haven't found the perfect gift for my mum yet. To us it's really important exchanging presents and since we both love to read so much I thought about a good book. The only problem is that we don't read the same genre so I don't know what book to buy. She doesn't like fantasy or Sci-fi, she reads a lot of real life stories with a deep meaning, she really loves Isabella Allende and Marcela Serrano (for example).
She's obviously an adult so nothing YA.
Do you have some ideas/ suggestions?
You would really save the day.
I like this one:https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...
Definitely a story that could happen in real life, although I’m not sure it would classify as deep…it really kind of is, but not in a shoving-it-down-your-throat kind of way. Wont walk away depressed.
The Salt Path is a memoir from an older woman who unexpectedly had the kind of adventure that some dream of having, and some consider a nightmare. Inspiring, but not at all cloying or anything.
My mum was in the medical profession back before that was common for women. She likes books about women who were fighting in male-dominated STEM careers like her, so she loved Hidden Figures and Hope Jahren's Lab Girl. She'll read books about strong women in other fields who beat the odds, but it's definitely a second tier for her.
But her taste is definitely not like those of other women.
