Hi Team! I'm Shaw and I will be your captain for this new year of UNO. UNO is my favorite yearly book challenge and I'm so excited to play again for my 4th year and 5th competition. I have posted a team tracking spreadsheet above for us to easily track the books that we are reading. This is not required but it does help eliminate duplicate or wasted books. Above all this is supposed to be a fun game so I do not believe in assigning books-I like the read whatever you want that fits and we'll find a spot for it. The only exception to this is the color covers and Wild Draw Four cards. These cards take a little more planning so as soon as everyone is checked into our thread, I will post these cards for the month and assign those to any who volunteer. That way if for some reason someone can't finish we can step in easier as they will be planned out already.
Ello everyone. This is my 1st year playing this game and I am ready to try and play it. I like reading dark romance books.
Dale wrote: "Ello everyone. This is my 1st year playing this game and I am ready to try and play it. I like reading dark romance books."Welcome to the game! Everything will make a lot more sense once we start playing but please feel free to ask any questions here or you can always message me or Megan.
Hi team! I'm megan. (The lower case started when I joined GR. It's the easiest way to tell me apart from the other Megan's) This is my 3rd or 4th UNO, but the first time as a co-captain of a Perks challenge. By day, I am an engineer in civil aerospace (anything that flies that's not military). Most evenings include a trip to the dog park with my pit bull, Eleanor. I'm up for reading anything and enjoy having to find books that fit tricky prompts. I do try to read as much non-fiction as I can.
Hi all 👋🏽This is my first year playing Uno, i invited my friends Carol and Dale to play for the first time too.
💊💉📚🔖🍭🍦🍨📖👩👧☕🥔🍟🥖
legal drug dealer on hiatus, book sniffer, single mom, straight forward, pathetically faithful urban fiction, romance/ dark romance/ erotica/ monster romance fan (I'm shameless with no triggers, don't bully me), ice cream lover, book club owner, blogger, huge music fan, bookish AF (yay for team challenges & book signings) and an 'abibliophobic polygamist book-reading ProcrastiReader' (I am NEVER just reading 1 at a time).
I'm always open to more romance reader friends..... Since it's such a 'sinfully taboo genre' 😘 these days.

THOUGH if you're still here after that big run on, 😜😅 I do enjoy psychological mindfuck thrillers, historical fiction, horror, true crime & some others.......but coffee first! It's a LOT to take in, I know 💜🖤

Hi!! I'm Sandy and this is my 4th year of UNO. My nephew loves the real Uno and we just played last night!! I read primarily romance, but will read other things for challenges. I do taxes and I hate that my job impinges on my Uno reading, since tax season and Uno season coincide - but that's life. I also help run a dog rescue nonprofit and I have a goofy golden retriever. I usually have at at least one audio book and one kindle book going at the same time. I'm looking forward to reading with all of you!!!
Hi All. I’m Kelly and I live in the UK - so will be about at different times to some.
I love reading. I read a lot of advance copies of books to review and especially enjoy romance, action and adventure.
This is my 5th or 6th year of Uno it’s the challenge I never miss!
Away from books I’m a yarnivore and complete crochet addict!

Hi All, I am, Jennifer and I live in Houston, Texas. This is my second year of Uno and I will pretty much-read anything. I am an empty nester now and volunteer as a Child Advocate, I advocate for children in CPS care. I also foster dogs for a local rescue that transports dogs to Colorado. I have a 100-pound hound mix that we rescued a few years ago and he is the best dog ever!
Looking forward to reading with all of you!
@Shaw - thanks for captaining us - this should be lots of fun!@megan - thanks for your part in keeping our skies safe. :-) And thanks for being co-captain.
@Prinzess -- love your list of genres and your description of what kind of reader you are!!!
@Kelly - cracking up at your "yarnivore" term!! Do you listen to audiobooks while you crochet?
@Dale - I love Saint Bernards - so much mass and hair, although I could probably do without the drool. That said, my Golden is a champion drooler - the food comes out and the faucet turns on!!!
@Jennifer -- so awesome you foster! Isn't it the best feeling when you match a pup up with their forever home?
It looks like we've got lots of dog lovers on our team

I tend to use audiobooks as motivation to walk! 😊

Yay everyone made it! 🎉🎊Kelly, you and Carol have crochet in common, she loves crocheting! <3
hi to you all.
i am over excited to get started. My gateway challenge here was the Bachelor challenge last year, i really enjoyed it but since i am always reading more than one book, i became hungry for challenges that gave me more than 7 days to get thru a read. the challenges motivate me to get thru my books on my TBR SO this year, that's going to be my thing- team challenges! it's gonna FUCKIN' ROCK 🎶🎸📻🎹
we have a hearing dog, a lab- my mom is deaf. i was going to post a pic, but ya'll got lucky cause i'm too lazy to scope out a site to host the pic. 😋 so, how cool that we all have animals in common. 🐕🦺
i have been planning for this game for almost a week. i noticed we have a bunch of 3 cards we need to get thru so i want to claim the first three card BECAUSE i can't contain my excitement. i'll wait until later to post the possible books if that makes everyone feel better.
i am totally open to helping you all find color card/ draw four books-- i've been scoping the reads and i am more than happy to shoot out suggestions when i see them.
i promise i'm not always this long winded 💋

Kelly - most of my communication throughout the day is with GMT, so I'm very used to the +5 time difference. I'm up at 5am EST for that reason anyway. Good Reads is one of the firsts apps I check in the morning during challenges, so hopefully communication won't lag too much.
Now that everyone has checked in we can start thinking about claiming the color cover cards and the Wild Draw Four cards. As I said before, these are the only books I like to plan out and claim as they take a bit more preparation. And claiming is not a requirement as I don't want anyone reading something they don't want to just to fill the color card. So if you have any that fit our color cards just throw them out in this thread or send a message. I will update the above post with them every month so we can easily see it.
So far I have books for a 2 Yellow, a 7 Blue and a 2 Green. But we also have those Wild Draw Four cards so if someone has books that work for those as well that will still work great.
Dale wrote: "i want to do the draw 2 card :)"Just go ahead and put the book for this and for any of the other cards that are not the color covers on the tracking sheet so we can easily track those that way. It works best if you put the books on the tracking sheet when you start reading it so everyone knows that is being covered. But also just remember that any book started before February 1st doesn't count.

I found this so far
4 yellow: main character, Freya
5 blue: Icebound (title) Ice Massacre (title)
2 yellow: another option- book 2 in the series
6 green: author's last name is Sager
I put all these books but Ice Massacre and the Apartment (it's on KU) on hold at the library. I will attempt to cover 1 or 2 of these cards but if one of you gets to it first, you are welcome to it.
i have a book for Zero, i can probably claim that too. 💜
PS: i don't think we can access either of the tracking spreadsheets for inputting.

Okay i will when i read it Feb1st

I added all but Icebound to the above list and we will change it as necessary if not all of them are available.
And the Team Spreadsheet is the official spreadsheet so only the captain and co-captain request and receive permission to edit that. The team tracking spreadsheet is for everyone so I'll check and approve those every day. I do work nights tho so not actually during "normal" daylight hours. lol
PrinzessBookDragon wrote: "what were 2 books everyone read in 2021 that became favorites or that ended up being 5 🌟???"fiction:
Project Hail Mary
When We Were Vikings
non-fiction:
Taste: My Life through Food
I know that's three, but I read 50 non-fictions last year, so they always get their own category.
PrinzessBookDragon wrote: "what were 2 books everyone read in 2021 that became favorites or that ended up being 5 🌟???"The Library by Bella Osbourne - just a beautiful story.
The Windsor Knot by S J Bennett - really clever entertaining writing!
I have this for a Wild Card 4 - fits either of the green cards
I have an advance copy - the cover is definitely green
Kelly-is a GR librarian adding the cover you have to the book page? Or will it be published by the end of the month? I’m just wondering for the UNO shelf official purposes.
Shaw wrote: "Kelly-is a GR librarian adding the cover you have to the book page? Or will it be published by the end of the month? I’ve read advanced copies in other years without issue.
I noticed that on a Google search too. It’s on GR so it’s all good for an advance copy read I just need the color part to match to satisfy my detail oriented OCD. Lol I’ll ask in the librarian thread and we should be all good.

What about u Shaw??Sandy?
Jennifer?
Carol?
Dale??
what were 2 books everyone read in 2021 that became favorites or that ended up being 5 🌟???
I struggle with this cuz I don’t rate a lot of books as 5 and I have trouble narrowing down my favorite books at all times. But I did greatly enjoy Red Platoon by Clinton Romesha and I think I rated that one 5. I also love the Mike Bowditch series by Paul Doiron. The two newest ones-One Last Lie and Dead by Dawn were both particularly fantastic. But I also loved Eight Perfect Murders, To Sleep in a Sea of Stars, The Graveyard Apartment, The Mystery of the Yellow Room, the Beaufort Scales series, Piece of my Heart, Killer Triggers, His Majesty’s Dragon, The A.B.C. Murders, Sailors to the End, Halo:Bad Blood, Ink and Shadows and Dreadfully Ever After. So as you can see it’s a difficult question for me.

We still have a 5 Blue and two Wild Draw Four color cards for February. Anyone got any books that match? If not-no worries. I'll get them covered.
Shaw wrote: "We still have a 5 Blue and two Wild Draw Four color cards for February. Anyone got any books that match? If not-no worries. I'll get them covered."What do yoh have to do for those again?
So the book needs to have a blue cover and fit the 5 UNO card. And then the Wild Draw Fours are the cards that match any of the color cover cards for the month. So basically just duplicating a color cover card. You can find the exact qualifications for each card at the top of tracking spreadsheet or on the card tab on the Team Spreadsheet as a good reminder.
