Hi team! I'm so excited to get to play Uno with all of you. Uno was my "Gateway" challenge - it introduced me to the Goodreads world of challenges, and I'm so glad because I've made some great friends here, and I've read some good books. So the main objective of Uno is to be social and have fun with each other and with your books. Of course, winning is nice too. We can't really control what cards we get, but we can hopefully get every possible point (which makes us a winner in my estimation).
Every time I've played Uno, I've thought "no way, we can't finish all that!" And yet with people working together, it just magically happens.
As far as team Logistics:
1) Once we are all in and settled, we can look at color cards and see who can read them. Those are the only cards we will "assign". For other books you read, just indicate what card(s) they work for, and April and I will put them into the hands of the official team spreadsheet. We don't need to read things in order - we can shuffle as needed til the end of the month.
2) You can use the planning sheet in whatever way it works for you - to put intended books, or just to record completed books. You also can report completed books in this thread, listing what your book works for. You don't need to do both unless you want to.
3) Remember to put finished books onto your Uno Shelf, and be sure to say they are "read" with the date. If you want to put planned books on your Uno Shelf too, that's fine.
I'll introduce myself here. My name is (obviously) Suzanne. I feel even less articulate than usual, but I and my family all have covid, so that is my excuse. Some things about me: My favorite types of books are hmmm...it really depends. I love fantasy/science fiction, historical fiction, mysteries - really anything with well-drawn characters I can empathize with. I read a lot because I can fit it into times between commitments - yay for kindles!
My husband and I are old enough to be empty nesters, but we have a son who lives with us and likely always will, and a daughter who is an RN and single mother, so she and my granddaughter live here so that my granddaughter has people here for her. It works - other than the covid - thanks Elementary school....
I teach math at the university here. I decided to retire after this semester because life demands are just becoming too much, and my teaching schedule typically keeps me at school til 9 p.m. Mon - Thurs. That's just getting old after 15 years of never having an evening! I do love teaching, but I'll find other things I love.
I also love dogs - I have a mastiff who is always within arms length when I'm home, and we have a golden retriever, and a mixed puppy who we are trying to housetrain. It hasn't been above 20 degrees here in weeks, and neither he nor I want to go outside! :)
I'm looking forward to playing Uno with all of you. Some of you are good friends who I am so glad I'll get to spend time with! And some of you are future good friends :)
I am your Co-Captain April. I am excited for this challenge and for February. I enjoy reading romance the best. I will go out of my comfort zone a little. I have been reading more books lately that I would usually not read.
I am a childcare provider for the state of Texas in my home. I have a newborn starting this week so my time to get online may not be as much.
I am on army wife of almost 19 years. I have 2 adult children 19 and 18. 19-year-old attends University of Texas. 18-year-old graduates high school this year and is a Manager at Taco Bell.
Some of you are new faces and some I have played other challenges with. Can't wait to meet more people.

Sorry to hear ya'll have covid. Hope you heal fast and it's a mild case.
Hi everyone! It's nice to be doing this challenge with so many good friends this year, but for those that don't know me I'm Laila. My favorite genre is romance, but I will read pretty much anything as long as I can get into the story and connect with the characters. I think at this point it's easier for me to list the types of books I don't like to read than the ones that I do.
I am a night shift nurse, so I can be found here at all hours of the day. I have a 4-year-old son and a work-from-home husband who both require lots of attention, so I've found audiobooks to be my best friend. I love listening to books while doing chores or driving to and from work. I also have the kindle app downloaded to every device I can get it on, on top of having the kindle itself, so I always have my book with me. Perfect for when I can sneak in some reading.
I've been joining this challenge since 2015. This is honestly my favorite team challenge, and the one that started my addiction to reading challenges. Can't wait to start this one =)

Suzanne, I'm so sorry to hear that you all have covid. Hoping for a speedy recovery for you all
Hi I'm Ambi! I look forward to anew Year because of the Uno challenge, believe it or not. I cannot wait for the mini challenges. They are so fun to read for. I read just about anything but my favorite genre is Magical Realism. Haven't found a book in that genre that has disappointed me... yet. :)
I am a freshman at University of Texas. I'm usually on GR for a good chunk of the day but my reading got slower since last semester. Last year was the worst with sporadic reading slumps and I hope that doesn't happen again. I love audiobooks too. Helps me multitask and get some reading done during my commute.

Thanks for collecting Uno shelves, April. That is super helpful!I too love audiobooks - I can listen to them when commuting and when grading easy stuff.
And I like the mini challenges too Ambi. It's fun finding "books that fit".
Speaking of finding books:I went ahead and filled in my "planned" books for February in our planning sheet. It's totally up to all of you if you want to do the same. My plans will almost certainly change, but I have a lot of netgalley books for February that I SHOULD read, so I wanted to at least list them :)
AND:
If you feel like looking for color covers! Here is what we have for this round. I'll keep the list updated at the top of the thread. Since we have 8 people and not a ton of color cards this month, maybe limit yourself to one or two until everyone gets a chance. Reading a color cover is totally optional, but, it's fun finding books that fit (in my opinion). Let's maybe give it a week, and then after that, people can pick more than 1 or 2 if there are spots left. Does that sound ok?Red

Awesome thanks! It looks blue to me. Although color covers always make me question if I am colorblind :).
Wheeee! I am here :DI'm Trinia and I live in East Texas, nearby Dallas.
My favorite book to read is an Audibook! LOL, I read everything but my least favorites are Westerns, War and some Espionage Crime type books. My most favorites are thrillers, mysteries, fantasy, sci-fi, horror, chick lit, historical fiction and some Bios. I think that covers it.
My husband and I live in a small town and he is the town doc, and Covid is aging him quickly. I've recently returned to work, I'm an Occupational Therapist and Certified Hand Therapist. I'm working 2 days a week in an outpatient settign and I cherish my days off to read!
We have 3 grown boys. My oldest twin is at a Seminary associated with St. Louis University in Missouri, he will go on for 6 more years to graduate with 2 degrees and become a priest. His twin brother is living at home after a year away at school, which he claims he is not cut out for. My baby at 18, is away at Florida State University. First semester was rough but hopefully he will iron it all out and improve his GPA.
We have 2 cats and 2 dogs ( a sheltie and a golden retriever). Otherwise it is peaceful out here in the country.
I am really excited to play UNO! I miss seeing my friends and making new ones. I've started building my color covers , if you want to see some I have tagged check out my shelves. Otherwise my Uno Shelf this time around is Uno22

HA! I'm in Mabank, just South of Canton. I cover our Athens clinic near UT Health occasionally!
So funny how Texas can be so small sometimes :D
It's nice to meet you!!!!
Hi everyone, I'm Emily. I live in Cape Town, South Africa. This is my second year of Uno! I'm currently doing the practical component of qualifying as a lawyer so I work quite long hours but I'm hoping to contribute to the team. I see my reading goals are modest compared to most of yours but I'll do my best!
I mostly read non-fiction, but I am always looking to broaden my reading horizons!

Wow I can't even imagine how much work that is, Emily. You will for sure contribute with what you read - I love that Uno teams have readers of all speeds, and needs all of them.
Wow what a small world, April and Trinia. And Ambi is in Texas too - that's really neat!Oops - I FINALLY created my Uno shelf. It is here:

Hi old friends and new ones. Here is my Uno shelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
I am retired and live in Colorado. My hubby is also retired and we use to like to travel before Covid hit . I have 2 daughters 1 is a pediatric oncology nurse and the other designs surgical equipment. I have 1 granddaughter and we will be getting a grandson in May. Yeah! I really like mysteries , sci-fi, fantasy and horror. I will read just about anything for a challenge, even Romance 😀
Hi Leslie! I hope you and your husband get to travel again to your hearts' content. I never would have imagined Covid would still be going strong after two years.
I agree, I never would have dreamed this would continue like it has. For years I’ve dreamed of going to Italy for our 25th anniversary, but we don’t /probably can’t leave the country. So instead we’re doing Disneyworld (right up my alley!) and we can pretend in EPCOT 🤣
Hi everyone! Sorry I'm late to the party. It's good to see so many familiar faces and meet a few new ones. I'm in Raleigh, NC and a PT at a major trauma center here. We are learning how to do everything differently every day (still) but so far we are managing.
I will read pretty much anything, except for cozy mysteries and high fantasy -- those I only read under duress for a challenge.
I LOVE audiobooks. I've had some health issues over the last year, and sometimes I can't concentrate to read, but I can still listen. :)
Suzanne, I hope you all are feeling well soon!
Here is my shelf: uno22
Welcome Stacey! Thanks everyone for checking in. It is so nice to have our team gathered!
So here's a question: Have you read any great books yet in 2022? My favorite so far this year was Leviathan Falls which is the last of the Expanse series. However, I read probably 95% of if in 2021 - I did finish it New Years Day though :) I really liked that series, and I like the show, but am only towards the last of season 2.
So far this year I’ve rated 4 books five ⭐️’s. The new release
was a good thriller,
was a nice feel good story,
a Picoult classic, bringing up tough issues and
another survival story by Kristin Hannah. I don’t give out 5 stars easily but I really enjoyed all of these for different reasons.
Trinia wrote: "So far this year I’ve rated 4 books five ⭐️’s. The new release

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society 5 stars The Night She Disappeared 4 stars
The Home Edit Life: The Complete Guide to Organizing Absolutely Everything at Work, at Home, and on the Go 4 stars

I loved The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society too ❤️🥧🥔❤️
Guernsey is one of my all-time favorites. It makes me want to write witty letters - or at least witty emails.
