First book of the year was Arthur: The dog who crossed the jungle to find a home. A book about a stray dog that starts following an Adventure Mulit sport racing team through the djungle in Ecuador. The captain of the team and the dog shares a special bond and it is a story also about how the captain rescues the dog to take home.

Second book of the year was Halva Malmö består av killar som dumpat mig (fast translation: Half of Malmö consists of guys who dumped me). This was written in diary form about Amanda that longs for love and a relationship. You get to follow her during a year when she is dating, she is trying everything: Tinder, dating all kind of people but has a hard to even get a second date. She and her friends try to understand life as single in the 21st century.

Progress:2/52

Fourth book of the year was Kanske imorgon (Maybe tomorrow would be the translation from Swedish). The story follows the involuntary friendship of two women. This friendship ends up being vital for the two neighbours. Both of them are in grief but handles it very differently. One one them tries to ignore it while the other woman tries to make the most of life. This friendship changes everything for both of them. It was a beautiful story as such.

Fifth book of the year was The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. This non-fictional book tells the story about the HeLa cell line. It is a book about ethics and moral. It is also a story about Henrietta Lacks and her family. How is science and research explained to the every day man in a way that they can understand?

Sixth book of the year was Bara idag (Only today would be the translation from Swedish). The book is a sequel to Kanske imorgon that I read previously. The story continues by following Eva and how she handles the sorrow of her firends death. She and her family goes to Mallorca in Spain for a holiday in the sun and Eva is determined to complete her friend's bucket list. I think this book is weaker than the previous one. There is a third book in the series and I will not continue with that directly, I need a break.

Seventh book of the year was a re-read of City of My Dreams. It must be at least 25 years since I read it last.
Now it was the book chosen for the on-line book club I am a part of. It is a classic here in Sweden. The book takes place between 1860-1880 and follows the poor. By following Henning as he comes walking into Stockholm from the countryside only owning what he is wearing. How he manages himself by finding job, friends and eventually meeting Lotten who he marries. It really describes the poverty, powerlessness and the dirt of the poor. I will continue the re-read of this series. So interesting to read now as older and also living in the Stockholm area as it is also a historical document of Stockholm becoming a city.

8th book of the year was Skating to Antarctica which I read for ATY prompt # 4
A book that fits your favorite prompt that did not make the list. I choose the rejected prompt A book with a theme of exploration. The book is about a trip the author made to Antartica but it is also so much more. It is also about the childhood of the author growing up with two instable parents and also about a inner travel made by the author trying to understand herself.

It is a character driven plot about some people in a small town in Sweden but it is also a book about identity and rasism, It is about a mother that is not a mother and a daughter that is not a daugther.
It is about Lykke and Fatima, Lykke is a rather sharp high school teacher in Nässjö, Fatima a foundling from India who has once again been abandoned, now by the adoptive parents. When Fatima turns 18 she leaves Nässjö without telling a word and left is Lykke with lots of questions.

12th book of the year was Fula tjejer, a quick translation of the Swedish title would be Ugly girls.
This is a young adult book and takes place in high school. An anonymous account is started on Instagram called Ugly girls and it publishes photos of some of the girls in the high school like a list of the "ugliest girls" in school. Three girls, of which 2 got published on the account, decides to figure out who is behind the account. I think the book is showing the world of the teens of today and the consequences of social media around us.

16th book of the year was Weep Not, Child. It is a book about a Kenyan family during the end of the colonial times in Kenya. The story is told from the eyes of the boy Njoroge. The family has been divided by the open conflict between the natives and the colonizers. Njoroge's dream is to go to school, a missionary school which is controversial due to the liberation from the colonizers. A short book that still brings you family feuds, love, violence and injustices.

17th book of the year was The Housekeeper and the Professor. It was a very cute book about a friendship between a housekeeper and the Professor where she is working. After a car accident earlier in life the Professor only remembers 80 minutes at the time (unless it is before 1975) so their friendship starts over every day. The professor is very fond of the housekeeper's son that also spends his afternoon at the Professor's house. The book is about friendship, mathematics and baseball and I very much liked it.

19th book of the year was the second book in the City Novels series (Children of Their City about Stockholm between 1880 and 1900. The book continues to follow the same family as in book 1 but mostly from the daughter's point of viewe. 21th book of the year was book club book for May, Ru. The language in the book was beautiful and there was a flow in the text even in this Swedish edition that I read. I could only imagine how it is in the original text in French. It is a novel that is biographical and about the author and her family as they left Vietnam as boat refugees. I realize that I would like to read more about the history of Vietnam.

24th book of the year was Girl A. I listened to the book and maybe that is why I had a hard time to get into the book when it jumped in the timelines. So maybe I had liked the book better if I had physically read the book. The story is told by Lex, one of a bunch of siblings that grew up in a house of Horror created by their parents. 25th book of the year was Knock Knock. I read this for the prompt A book with fewer than 5000 ratings on Goodreads. From the beginning I had the idea of not choosing a Swedish book as it is quite easy to find one that fits the prompt. But considering I am a little bit behind I took the easy way out.
The book is a fast paced thriller in a series I enjoy reading and following the characters.

Progress:20/52

26th book of the year was Sista sommaren, translation of the Swedish title is The Last Summer. It is one of the best books I have read in the feelgood genre. It is a story about a friendship that evolves between Britta, a 86 year old lady that has "run away" to her summer house without the permission of her children that do not allow her to be there by herself and Adam, a 20 year old boy that has been kicked out by his mum and has nowhere to go. You get to follow the two two main characters Britta and Adam, whose thoughts you get to follow in every other chapter. It is a focus on friendship and not love story which I find is a bit unusual in this genre.

27th book of the year was Stöld, translation of the Swedish title is Theft. It is an important book about the reindeer herders and their families in the north of Sweden. Their reindeers are hunted and slaughtered but the police does not investigate the crimes. There are since generations back tensions between the reindeer herders and the other villages. The story begins with Elsa as a nine year old finds her reindeer calf dead and also witness who has killed it. She is threatened to silence and this continues to affect her as she grows up.

Signe when she is an old woman in 2017, looking back at her life and David in 2041 being a refugee in Europe in drought with not enough fresh water for its citizens. The story is good but I did not feel as connected to this book as I did in the first book of this book quartet called Climate Quartet.

Goal for this year is to finish ATY. I am going to try to read in order.....we will see how it goes. This to stop me avoiding the prompts that I have harder for and not save them for the end.
Update october 11, I will not be able to finish ATY 2022 in the speed I am reading when reading in order. Therefore, I have been looking through all books I read during the year and added them to the ATY prompts that they fulfill in order for me to be able to complete the challenge
I will also try to read all books for my book club. These will have to fit in outside of ATY or if I am lucky to fit the prompt I am at.
I have an idea in my head that I will try to read around the world but I have not figured out how. I will think about that during the year and also see how ATY progresses.
My Goodreads goal this year is to read a total of 60 books.
I also have a goal of reducing my TBR this year. So I will track that here as well.
As of January 1, 2022 I have 420 books on my TBR. I reduced it by 29 books last year, see if I can beat that :-)
