... to another round of UNO!
I see some familiar faces! Hey there M, Preeti, Alissa and Noel*!!
*Noel, we're a package it seems. :p
And also some new ones! Hey, hey!
I'm Diana and I'll be your captain in this rebellion! :) I've checked that none of you are playing for the first time, however, I'm here to clarify any doubts you may have about the way UNO works. Co-captain Frida is here to assist you as well! So here's how I usually manage the challenge: there's a Tracking spreadsheet (see Message 5 above), where I'd like you to add the books you've finished reading, analogously to the Example. If you have trouble with spreadsheets, no worries: just make a completion post and Frida and I will take care of moving it to the spreadsheet.
As soon as we know the cards for the following month, we'll claim the coloured cards (see Message 6). No need to claim other cards. Just filling the spreadsheet is enough for me to do my placement magic.
Now go ahead and introduce yourselves, and tells us about some of your favourite books and genres. Tells us about a book we simply must read because it's soooo good. :)
I'll go first: I spent the last three years living in London and I just returned to my home country, Portugal, and I'm currently living for the first time ever in Lisbon. I'm 30 and working a job that I love with people I really like. I'm learning to play the piano (a childhood dream of mine!), I love cooking, I'm an amateur runner, and guess what... love reading too! :)
I love the Harry Potter series (I always get HP socks/pajamas/you-name-it for Christmas), loved reading Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine, One Child and Grief is the Thing with Feathers. All, except the latter, work for UNO. ;)
And now it's your turn. From me all that's left to say for now is...
Well hello there team! I'll be the left hand woman to our mighty Diana! I know Alissa from before (hi there!) but otherwise everyone is new to me, which I love! Little summary of me: I'm Frida, and I've lived in Spain for the past 5 years (seems like Diana and I have the Iberian Peninsula covered). I'm in my last semester of university, and my education life officially ends at the same time this UNO challenge ends, at the end of April. But we're not thinking of that because the future is terrifying and I feel qualified for nothing.
Honestly, the pandemic made me realize how I genuinely do not have any hobbies. My life has been studying with very little time for anything else. I'm excited to pick up some new interests after graduation! I used to play piano when I was little, so I'm planning on getting back to that (@Diana, we can teach each other a la blind leading the blind). As for books, I'm not much into self-help or poetry, but otherwise I will read anything. My favorite is when people recommend a book to me, because it feels like they're sharing a part of their soul with me!
Anyways, that's that on my inability to be brief. I LOVE uno, and I will be quite chatty on this group. Excitement overflows a little, hope I won't be too annoying :D
Can't wait to read with you all!!
Oh Frida - mi hermana! :) - everyone feels that way at uni! It consumes a lot of our time and energy in normal times, let alone when we're going through this awful situation... I work in academia, and I've seen how the pandemic has affected my students. I am really sorry you're going through this. Also, it's an unfortunate common feeling that we attend university and by the end think that we know nothing, and cannot believe anyone would be crazy enough to give us a job. I've been there - actually, sometimes I am still stuck there. But I also think there are great things awaiting, and that we should enjoy every moment we can! I'm sure there are plenty of awesome things waiting for you, if only you look for them!I'd love to have a piano buddy! Having company is extra motivation! :)
Recommend me a book :)
Hi friends! Excited to be doing Uno for my fourth (or fifth?!) year! I’ve been with Diana these last two years so I know we are in good hands!I’m from Pennsylvania, work as a marketing content manager, and I love reading different kinds of books. Im a huge fan of romance, literary fiction, and the classics.
I can’t wait to play!
Hello! I honestly don't know what round on Uno this is for me, it is one of my favorite challenges. I have a pile of books prepped and ready to go.... as soon as I get my cat off of them.I also apologize in advance. I am a crazy cat mum and I will talk about the floof babies a lot.
Hi! I don't recognise any names so far, so I'm looking forward to getting to know you all. I've 0layed uno a few times before, and was co-captain either last year or the year before (I've lost track...).I'm from the UK. I've just started a new job as a GP (family medicine doctor), so I don't know how much I'll be around until that settles a bit. To add to the chaos, I've got small children and a husband to keep on track.
I read anything apart from horror, but my reading level has dropped from 300 a year to about 100 over the last 2-3 years.
Hmm books to recommend... My favourite recently was The Hands of the Emperor, which is a beautifully written standalone fantasy novel.
Frida -good luck! The end of anything is a nervous time, but new things come along. I don’t feel like I have hobbies either other than reading.
M - look forward to floof vaby chat.
M - cat ladies unite. I'm planning on adopting one as soon as I'm more or less settled into life post-graduation. Meanwhile, I cry over pictures of my sister's orange lion. Whenever I facetime her, he (the cat) gets jealous and swats her phone away. All attention on him at all times!
Hi, all. At present, I live in Bangalore in the south of India. Because of my dad's job, my family moved home all around India and a few places abroad all through my life. Due to medical reasons, I stopped working for a few years. I was supposed to start working again in 2020 but the current situation mucked up all my plans. I am keeping my fingers crossed that things will get sorted out in the next few months.
I read from pretty much any genre. There are a few genres that I am not too keen on, romance, for eg., but I will try anything at least once before I give up on it. I have a lot of favourite books and have put most onto a separate shelf.
UNO was one of the first team challenges I ever took part in and it remains one of my favourites. I am looking forward to a fun time.
Frida, best of luck for a fabulous future. And don't worry, everything will slot into place as time goes by. M, I hope we get to see lots of pics.
Aw Noel, thanks! 🥰Can't way for some floof invasion in this thread, M! 🐈
Sophie, best of luck! You must have your hands full! And that is a loooong book... can't remember the last time I read something so long. I have The First Man in Rome sitting in my shelf for aaaaages.
Preeti, it must have been nice to live in several places. Fingers crossed for the future!
Oh hi there Tali I'll bet shes just the best manager there ever was!! Except if you don't pay attention to her exactly when she demands it, then it's trouble
M wrote: "Here is my floof baby Tali. She is my current manager since I work from home."
So cute 🤗 She reminds me of one of my aunt's cats who walks around the house "supervising" all the housework. She gives major side-eye if she is displeased. Approval is shown by her lying down and allowing all of us to pet her.
Hello team 🤗 This is Dalia from Cairo and currently living in Germany. I’m excited for my second UNO! Nice to meet you all
M wrote: "Here is my floof baby Tali. She is my current manager since I work from home."
omg I'm in love
Hello! I totally ha the 24th in my head for checkin so I am sorry for being the slowpoke. I'm happy to see old faces and new ones too!I'm in Calgary (Canada) and am also a cat mom. They are terrible managers who sleep on the couch ALL day while I slave away at my computer. If I can figure out how to add photos I will share.
My favorite genres are mystery, historical fiction, and non-fiction. My non-favorite genres are sci-fi and fantasy. Instead of all time favorites, I want to suggest The Rose Code and Dark Roads which are both excellent recent reads.
Aside from reading, I like camping, x-country skiing, and puzzles.
Hi everyone! I'm Sabrina from Louisiana (USA). I've played UNO for several years now. I love all themes they come up with. I love reading, mostly romance, but I'll read other things as well like paranormal. I have several authors/ series that I love and usually will read them once or twice a year. I work alot. I'm a full time teacher, part-time adult ed instructor, and a tutor at a homeless shelter. I usually don't have time during the week to read much, but I make up for it on the weekend. I can guarantee a minimum of nine books a month. I'll post the ones I'm going to read in the tracking sheet and then update it once they are complete. If they are on the sheet, you can count on that book for the month.
I am so excited to be a part of this team. Happy reading everyone!!
** Diana and Frida - I requested access to edit the tracking sheet. I have a read only version. Color cards that I can cover:
- Blue 9 -
-- Character name Ned. - Red 0 or 6 -
-- Stand alone; C:Sara and Shane
The tracking sheet has come up read only for me too. The sharing settings might need updating to everyone with a link.
Hey guys! I’m in Milan until tomorrow night with no computer access, so I can only contribute as much as the app lets me. The tracking sheet comes up as only view for me as well thoughFor the color cards - I forgot which ones we have and it doesn’t let me check, but I can take whichever green one that fits Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo! It’s been on my TBR since last UNO, and it NEEDS to get read. For other ones, I can take whichever one is left over tomorrow!!
Glad to see everyone’s checked in! @Sabrina, welcome to the team! Excited to starttt
Hey!YEY! Our team is complete! :D Welcome everyone, once again! :)
Sorry about the spreadsheet, I did have it read only, but you have editor rights now. :)
Fill in the spreadsheet only after you finished reading a book.
Only coloured cards will be assigned beforehand (and I'll keep the list updated in Message 6). I'll take the books that Frida, M and Sabrina mentioned already.

3 Red - Diana with How to Walk Away
6 Red - Sabrina with A Very Grumpy Christmas (also fits 0 Red)

No worries Alissa! I just wanted to make sure everybody was checked in before it was too late. :)
I really liked those suggestions. I'm not sure if I can manage it for UNO though, but I'm really excited about The Rose Code, so I may give it a go! Thanks!
For 1 Yellow I'll read The Rose Code. I love Kate Quinn and had held off read this in case a Q came up in the recent wheelahon.
Sophie wrote: "For 1 Yellow I'll read The Rose Code. I love Kate Quinn and had held off read this in case a Q came up in the recent wheelahon."Awesome! List updated in Message 6.
I'll take the following:0 Red - Ghosting by Edith Pattou (stand-alone)

9 Blue (Wild Draw 4) - Natalie Tan's Book of Luck and Fortune

Only two WD4 left to assign: we can still duplicate either:
3/4 Green
0/3/8 Red
1 Yellow
(updated because I missed the yellow card!)
I can read
for red 0!question - do translator's name count? The translator is Haydn Trowell, so could I use the H for 3? (this book is a standalone so it works fine for 0, im just curious)
Frida wrote: "I can read

Hey. No! Only the author's name counts. :)

List updated (0 Red)! :)
Alissa wrote: "If this is yellow enough I can do the yellow WD4.
"Captains ruled it as yellow :)
I’ll update the list!
Hi, I am going to have to change my 9 Blue book. I didn't realise that I read it last less than 6 months ago. I will add a different book in the next few days.
Preeti wrote: "Hi, I am going to have to change my 9 Blue book. I didn't realise that I read it last less than 6 months ago. I will add a different book in the next few days."Thanks for pointing it out Preeti. On the books' main page I can only see the date you first rated it, which is very misleading. I must click on the date to get the full GR-history. :) I'll check from now on!
Noel wrote: "If we need another 9 blue book, I can do it. If not I plan on just reading as much as possible lol"That is excellent, Noel. Thanks. Please list your book so Diana can change it in her list.
