Jenny | 2501 comments Hey team!
Welcome to Uno 2022!
For those of you who have played before, welcome back, and for the new players, get ready for some fun.
I am Jenny, one of your captains. I am a shop owner from Phoenix, with an addiction to books and the Green Bay Packers, science and kitty cats.
Oh, and really good whiskey. I will read anything that the team needs (and I have read some doozies), but I prefer science fiction, speculative fiction, or anything with good characters and writing.

Any questions you guys have about how to play, do not hesitate to ask. I will be linking to our tracking spreadsheet in message 5 above, and to any other important posts, like the rules and the mini-challenges.
A far as cover colors goes, we are going to be doing it by eye, and team consensus. If a book looks mostly red, then we will call it red. Any questions about covers, post them here. There are links to lists of color covers in message 4.

Also, anyone who is not comfortable using the spreadsheet, let us know and we can set up a completed post thread.

I am hoping that you all are chatty, and we can share stories and book recommendations with each other.
I would love for you all to give a bit of an introduction with your hello if you wish to.

Angie ☯ | 1070 comments Hello everyone!!
Welcome to Uno!

I hope you are as excited as I am for a new year of Uno!

- I'm Angie, your co-captain for this round of Uno.
- I am a in the US, Eastern time zone, but I check in to GR all throughout the day.
- I will read pretty much anything with Non-Fiction being my least favorite Genre
and one that I usually only pick up for challenges.
- I believe this is my 5th round of Uno.
- I work in the accounting/finance field since forever!
- I'm a Raiders gal, but will be for Jenny's Packers for the big win,
since my boys forgot how to play in the Wild Card game!

I look forward to playing with you all!! Let's have some UNO fun!!

message 11: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1927 comments Hello Everyone!!!

This is my god knows what UNO, I’ve played I think every year it’s been run. I’m taking it easy on myself this year and not in the captains chair since I’ll be moving house in Feb.

I have complete faith in our captain and co captain to steer us straight! And make sure we all have fun 🙂

I read most genres though horror is not a favorite. I love learning about books through challenges so if you read one you really enjoyed, I hope you share it so I can make sure my to be read list stays ridiculously long.

I live in the US on the East Coast but often check on GR throughout the day. By profession I’m an economist in the toxic chemical office of the EPA working on chemical regulations.

That’s probably enough for now. I’m excited to play with familiar and new faces alike!

Sarah Twiggs (twiggssl) | 591 comments Hi all!

This is my sixth uno-challenge. It is my favorite (and only) team challenge. I always love this challenge because of the great books recs I get from the team!

I’ve lived on the East Coast for the last seven years but def a Midwest girl at heart :-)

I work in college athletics and live with my two cats - Gus (six) and Tibbs (four - who also has epilepsy)

I tend to read almost everything, but am drawn to historical fiction and fantasy (lately anyways!)

message 13: by Rosina (new)

Rosina | 55 comments Hello all!!

This is my 3rd or 4th time playing....I played in the early years...

Lets see i have played team challenges with a few of you....waves @ Jenny, Angie....great to be back with you....

Bit about me I work in the accounting/finance world and I play with spreadsheets all day long....
I am in MST time zone and live in the foothills of the Rockies in Canada....
This year I decide to really kick up my reading.......I am aiming for 2 books/week....I am in a bunch of annual challenges this year but looking forward to the team ones....

Just reviewed my books for Feb and so far I have Blue 2,3,9 and a Red book, also 6,8,

Like the rest of you i will read any genre and will give a book a decent 100 pages read before I will say bye bye....

message 14: by Andrea (new)

Andrea (pilaryk2) | 134 comments Hello everyone!

This is my second time playing UNO. I played last year and it got me hooked on team reading challenges.

I am from Colombia (South America), so I am in EST time zone. I am a Chemical engineer and I work in an engineering firm where we build and commission processing equipment.

I read a bit of everything, but my favorite genres are Fantasy and sci fi.

I am looking forward to reading alongside you all.

message 15: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1927 comments Woo Hoo for only having 2 Draw 2 cards in Feb!

I think that's the lowest number I've ever had in a month all the years I've played.

message 16: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1927 comments I have book options for most any card we have in our Feb hands, including the color cards.

I am trying not to get too excited AND GRAB ALL THE SPOTS, before most of our teammates even have 5 seconds to look at the spreadsheet.

I just put down 2 books so far that I will most certainly be reading in Feb and work for our color cards.

Imma going to walk away now . . .before I grab ALL THE SPOTS.

LOL

message 17: by Lauri (last edited Jan 17, 2022 05:47PM) (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 966 comments Aloha everyone! I'm Lauri from Hawaii & I can't wait to begin this round of UNO! I believe this will be my 6th year playing & I always have a blast!
Fair warning, Dear Captains & teammates: I can't manipulate a spreadsheet to save my life! I can view them, but I can't use them so I will ask for help posting my books. Thank you in advance!

Fun facts:
All my books are library books. I don't like ereaders because it feels too much like work. I much prefer the feel & smell of real paper & ink books.
I'm a mom of 1 adult son. He's 29 & still lives with us. I'm happily married to my husband, Scott, for 32 years. We live on the island of Oahu -- born & raised.
I work at the State Hospital (yes, read mental hospital) in the medical records unit. I deal mainly with release of information. It's endless, but I feel as though I'm actually helping people.
I am book-obsessed. I will read just about anything. My favorite genres are historical fiction, paranormal, mysteries, humor, chick-lit, & thrillers. I learned to read when I was 4 and have never looked back. I read multiple books simultaneously. I don't know why. I just do.
Please feel free to friend me & to visit my shelves, especially 5-Star Reads. Those are my absolute favorite books of all times.

I look forward to getting reacquainted with old friends & getting to know my new teammates!

message 18: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2501 comments Hi everyone! We are almost all here already. This is going to be a good team.
It looks like we all like to share recommendations and have all played before (so far).
Feel free to grab spots on the spreadsheet if you want to plan ahead.
We have 12 color covers (including Wild Draw 4s), and 10 reverse cards. So look at your shelves and each others' when you get the chance.

Lauri, do you want a separate completed book thread, or do you just want to post them here?

message 19: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Twiggs (twiggssl) | 591 comments I went in and added a few books that have plenty of copies available via my library loans :-)

I didn't want to take all the reverses...it looks like we all have a lot of in-common books!

I can just post my books here, if that's ok. Whichever is easiest for the team.

message 22: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 321 comments Wait Wait Wait... what sorcerer is this? Jenny and Judith on the same team?!

You used the mind of a child to confound the Uno Pixie, I know you did!!!!

message 24: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1927 comments I may of asked for a mini Lusties reunion, but there was no way all of us could be together on one team with our book numbers.

I’m sure Karen gave my signup the squinty eyed glare. Rightly so. Haha

message 25: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 1198 comments It would have been a small team! lol.

Pretty much like sinful towers, I guess... some teams had double our amount of members :D

message 26: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 321 comments Well... if you get tired of being in a tower, you can always visit Wuthering Heights, and we'll do a mini Lusties reunion on all that open space.

Just don't forget your weapons. And maybe some food. Sammy and I only have ratty blankets and empty bowls.

Would you provide a Heathcliff, or would we need to bring our own along with the food?

message 28: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 2200 comments Jenny wrote: "Would you provide a Heathcliff, or would we need to bring our own along with the food?.."

1. Sammy's there, pretty sure there'll be a Heathcliff or two
2. Sonia and Sammy are there, and we know how possessive they get

So if looking is all, you'll be fine; but if you want to frolic on the moors with your own, it'll have to be a BYOB party work event

Hadar | 11 comments Hi guys!!
This is my first time playing UNO or doing any team challenge, but I'm really excited!!!
I'm from the East Coast and a freshman at college. I plan on majoring in bio and becoming a dentist. hopefully.
Even tho I'm in school I always make time to read. Some of my favorite genres are fantasy, romance, science fiction, some thrillers, and classics.
Looking forward to playing with you all!!

Angie ☯ | 1070 comments Hi Chaya/Hadar - so happy to introduce you to the fun of UNO and team challanges!! I'll bet you will be hooked!

Question - do you have a preference on how we address you? We have both Chaya and Hadar from the signups and your profile....just want to use what you prefer. thanks!

message 41: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 1070 comments Wow - everyone has checked in/posted - that was quick!!

We have a couple weeks to chat and get to know each other as well as plan for or discuss the first round of Uno. What shall we talk about first??

message 42: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2501 comments Well, obviously we should talk about whether self sealing envelopes or the lickable kind are better.
Important topics, right?

...And I am off to cut a bunch of frames and get covered in sawdust.
Happy Monday all!

message 43: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1927 comments Umm, self sealing because no need to worry about paper cuts on the tongue 👅

Self sealing all the way! I hate the taste and the texture of the glue. yuck! Also, I am only just thinking about opening lickable envelopes....
It is not a nice thing to consider someone licked what you are touching... 😑

message 46: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 966 comments I don't want to be the one who's totally gross BUT...
Cockroaches, silverfish & lots of other bugs love paper. Especially the glue on envelopes. So, definitely self-sealing all the way!

message 47: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 1070 comments You two definitely convinced me!! Lol!

message 48: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1927 comments I have a feeling this conversation went much differently (delightfully so) than Jenny expected when she flung the topic out there 🤣

message 49: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2501 comments I did not expect roaches, no.
What would have happened if I asked what everyone had for breakfast I wonder?

message 50: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1927 comments Hopefully not roaches hehe
