any comments/thoughts/musings you want to share on the books you've read in 2022. was the book kinda boring or was it way better than you expected? was there a quote in the book that made you feel some type of way? did you learn something interesting about a random topic or yourself? some ideas...

Wisteria | 11 comments Really enjoying “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” by John Berendt. It’s extremely entertaining and has made me laugh out loud in public several times. The characters are outrageous and it’s all based on real people in Savannah GA. It’s educational also, considering it talks a lot about the history of the City and I find it to be very interesting.

Wisteria | 11 comments I started reading “Tattoos as Punishment” and it’s incredibly interesting. One of the most interesting things I learned was the way lovers got tattooed together in the 1,000s in Japan. They would tattoo their hands with a dot that could pass as a mole. But the way it worked was if the lovers held hands the length of their thumbs would reach the dot, if that makes sense. They’d also bite off the end of their pinky fingers together, shave their heads together, and would often commit suicide together. Pretty intense. Prostitutes would also tattoo the names of their favorite clients on their arms.

If you wanted to remove a tattoo back then you did it with FIRE. Hardcore.

Jonathan | 2 comments For the first time this year, I’ve put a book down unfinished. I picked up Jane Austen’s “Emma” a few weeks ago and I almost feel guilty not seeing it through. It’s so well written and is a fascinating look into a person like Emma, but it’s not for me right now. I think I’m reading this book I realized romance isn’t something I really enjoy. The novel seems to be entirely about budding relationships and flirtation and romantic gestures and will they/won’t they moments that just bore me, frankly. On top of that, the old English style is such a slog to get into and that didn’t help my situation. I found myself bored of reading in general and hadn’t read for days on end. Hopefully switching to something new will help me with that.

have definitely needed to drop books in the past. haven't read Emma but i would like to sometime in the future. i know quite a few people who refuse to put a book they don't like that much down which is something that always confused me. why subject yourself to something that you don't like?

Wisteria | 11 comments Yeah John I had to put down the pagan book I was reading it was horribly written and it discouraged me from reading for weeks because I felt like I had to finish it and it was so uninteresting.

But I finally decided to put it down for good and give up on it which I have never done with a book. But now I am back to reading. :)

Kelly Dunsmore | 4 comments I finished Normal People last week. It got me good. Maybe I had a moment of weakness and there was an in depth analysis of Normal People with my ex (back to no contact i stg). Something specific that I was connecting to was that I think the way they always have an intimacy even when they’re dating other people though doesn’t give them the space to fully be invested in other relationships. It’s this little knowledge in the back of your head that you’re going to end up with someone you already consider Your Person, it’s hard to have that slot open for someone else to be that to you and be prioritized. At the same time, they’re with other people because they aren’t ready for each other. At the end it got to a point, either to be together or not. The part of me that sees myself in their dynamic thinks they should have broken up a long time ago, but appreciates a continued vulnerability they attempt at the same time? The ending had my chest so goddamn heavy goddamn. Read if you haven’t <3
